An Unreserved Apology to J (hangs head in shame) (11)

Sunhillow's profile

Posted by Sunhillow on Mon 25 Feb 08, 5:26 PM to Sunhillow's blog.

This is an unreserved, humble, heartfelt apology to Master.

For the past, almost, 5 years, I have been known to call J a "nerd" because of His huge passion for Prog Rock... in particular the bands Yes & Genesis, and all things related thereto.

I'd smile indulgently when He obtained another piece of rare bootleg footage or recording of one of His fave bands.

When He would want to see more than one gig of a certain tour I just couldn't understand it... I mean, isn't it just the same stuff in a different place?

I'd try to get excited as He eagerly awaited news of a tour, or a soon-to-be-released DVD, watching as He poured over the related internet forums, scouring them for news.

I've done my best to become educated about these bands, accompanying Him to gigs and even select master classes for fans. I've even got into (and like, a lot) early Genesis.

I've been to solo gigs of their band members with Him, and gigs of ex-members and even gigs of tribute bands!

But on Friday 22 February 2008, at approximately 9.00pm everything changed. The earth shifted on its axis, I was born again & my life was changed forever.

You see.. a couple of weeks ago (Mon 11 Feb to be precise) there we were in the kitchen cooking dinner, chatting over a glass of wine... in the background on the digital radio was Paul Jones Radio 2 Ryhthm & Blues show. It featured a live studio performance by a guy called Joe Bonamassa and his band.

Now, neither of us had heard of him, but really started to enjoy the gig... by track 3 we were utterly hooked and realised we were listening to an exceptionally gifted guitar player. From this show we discovered he was touring in the UK with a gig in our local town.

The very next day I dived onto Amazon to order Joe's new album "Sloe Gin" for J for Valentine's day (in retrospect, rather a selfish present LOL) and tickets were purchased for Joe's gig in Crewe.

All I can say is...

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!

The guy is simply AWESOME! I've never seen such emotion and passion in a performance... and what a performance! He's an absolute master on the guitar... just to give you an idea, he was touring & performing with BB King when he was 12!!

I am now totally, utterly, completely, unreservedly Joe Bonamassa MAD!!

I've joined the internet forum, I've had Joe playing constantly since Friday and I've been downloading as much of his stuff that I can. (I would add, approved recordings by Joe, not stuff that's been nicked).

I can't wait to see him perform live again, and am so kicking myself that we didn't get tickets for other dates on the UK tour... they are all sold out now :(

So Master, I apologise for all the things I said.. I apologise for calling you a nerd, please forgive me and <gets on knees to beg> please, please, please, please can we go to see Joe in July?

A very contrite Sunhillow

To paraphrase the great Rush... 'The words of the Gothlin are written on dungeon walls and fet-club halls... echoes with the sound of.... whippin' ;)

Not very 3rd person.

The Babylon project was our last best hope for peace. It failed.
In the year of the Shadow war it became something greater. Our last best hope for victory.
The year is 2260. The place, Babylon 5.
