Taking female hormones (40)

This post is on the Other BDSM web board.

As a longstanding single TV male (who may be pre-op/non-op TS) I am seriously thinking about starting a course of female hormones. I've read about it on the Transformations website - apparently their hormone treatments are herbal, not harmful to health and regulated (albeit they are v expensive).

I want to take daily tablets to make me feel more feminine and help me to grow small real breasts - and for my skin to become softer. I know there are some minor initial side effects, such as hot flushes and feeling dizzy, but I understand these pass - only downside is a slight loss of sex drive (which may actually be a good thing).

I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is taking female hormones - to get your advice and feedback. I'm not worried about the cost, I have savings I can use, but I would like to know if you find the hormones a) effective and b) harmful to health.

I would also like to know how long you have been able to hide your growing breasts under male clothes in the office. I eventually hope to live full time as a girl and then it won't be a problem.

I think that female hormones would make me feel more calm, less aggressive, and that it would bring a feeling of serenity - but I don't want to risk my current good health.

Don't!

I have a very close friend who did that and got no benefit, but did become permanently and completely impotent.

I have another acquaintance who was hospitalised through liver troubles as a result of taking these. She survived, but it was a close-run thing.

Quite apart from the damage to your pocket, Transformations has the reputation of being one of the most highly priced purveyors of TV stuff on the market.

I would say very strongly that you should only consider taking female hormones under medical supervision as part of a formal transgender reassignment.

I wish you well with your desires for becoming female hun xx

On a lighter note may I ask if you find a female hormone that will make you feel more calm, less aggressive AND bring a feeling of serenity you would be kind to pass it on to me :-D

Ps You'll know when you are a woman when you DO get hot flushes and the occasional dizzy spell!

Seconded.

Many thanks for all your prompt replies - v helpful!

Here's the reply I received from Transformations yesterday:

Thank you for your email in regards to your question all out products are herbal based and do therefore not have any side effect. I send you a copy of the informatuion we do have shown on our webside. How Long do Medications Take to Work?

Everyone responds individually to the effects of taking hormones, that is why even in genetic females with the same level of hormones some will develop large breasts and others small. The development effects of a continuous optimum dose of female hormones can last between 3 and 5 years as at puberty, however initial signs of development should be apparent within 26 weeks of commencing treatment.

What is the Maximum Dosage of Hormones?

If you select the appropriate combination course this will supply the optimum level of hormones for development. To increase dosages above this level will have no material effect. What Are the Side Effects?

You may experience mild hot flushes or dizziness in the early weeks of treatment but these will soon abate. Breast and Nipple Development Creams can cause tenderness and a tingling feeling, but this is localised to the area of treatment and is in no way harmful.

Who Should NOT use these Treatments?

Anyone under the age of 18. Females who have a normal level of hormones or anyone suffering with any form of breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes or a history of embolisms.

What Happens if I Discontinue Treatment?

If you are a genetic male and have not been castrated the developments triggered by hormone treatment will gradually reverse.

Can genetic Females Use these Products?

Yes, but it is only beneficial if you have a low level of female hormones.

Why Do You Recommend Taking Anti-Androgens with all Treatments?

Female hormones have to battle against the male hormones in your body and this minimises their effect. Taking anti-androgens lowers the level of testosterone circulating in your body and allows the female hormones to act more effectively.

How Does the Beard & Body Hair Retardant Work?

The preparation penetrates down to the hair follicule (root) weakening it so that it gradually grows just the light downy texture that is natural for a female.

Am I Too Old to Start Treatment?

You are never too old, we have been supplying these hormone products for nearly 20 years now and literally 1000's have achieved results that have delighted them no matter what their age.

How Big Will My Breasts and Nipples Grow?

The $64,000 dollar question that no-one can truthfully answer. Just like genetic women, some users grow very large breasts and prominent nipples and others experience more modest development, but literally 1000's achieve results that delight them every year.

How is Transformation Linked to the Albany Clinic & Medica Pharmaceuticals?

The highly respected Albany Gender Identity Clinic under license from Medica International Pharmaceuticals of Switzerland manufactures all of these unique hormone products. Transformation has been entrusted by both of these organisations to exclusively handle the worldwide distribution of these products for the past 18 years.

What Effect Will it Have on my Male Sex Drive?

Topical medication (ie cream based) will not adversely effect your libido. Taking powerful anti-androgens and ingesting female hormones over a period of time will obviously lower testosterone levels and thus your sex drive.

Are These Products Safe and Effective?

All of these licensed hormone based products are approved and have been in regular use for 18 years. Regular quality and efficacy testing is carried out by a MCA approved laboratory. No animals were used in any stage of development or testing.

Are There any Adverse Reactions?

Apart from mild flushes and some dizziness in the early stages of treatment, which are perfectly normal, very few. About 2% of patients experience some skin irritation when using the body or beard retardant cream. If you experience any significant adverse reaction to any product, cease using immediately and return the product for a refund.

They Seem Expensive - How Can I Afford Treatment?

As with all effective medication, hormones do not come cheaply and continuous daily treatment is essential to achieve optimum results. We do try in several ways to help make these products affordable - for example, special offers at certain times of the year, and our Combination Hormone Courses can also save you up to 30%

Do you usually believe in sales talk? If someone outlines the benefits of a creditcard, do you take it? DO you genuinely believe the sales person or do you buy into the fantasy?

I may be cynical, but I would never, ever, ever take anything unless it is under medical supervision. Find an understanding doctor and go from there. Your body is too precious a thing to mess with.

Yep. Dinking with your hormonal balance should only be done by people who have experience and can give you the monitoring required. All drugs (even vitamin C) have side effects, and female hormones are no exception. Added to the effects on the liver you increase your risk of DVT and PE (blood clot on the lungs, which can be fatal) by a factor of 25. If you're going to get a DVT, at least go somewhere nice on a long haul flight first. ;-) You also increase your risk of breast cancer.

I could go on (and on, and on, and on) and if you want to memo me, then I will. Otherwise, if you are already 'in the system' as a TS, why not have a chat with the medics?

I'm following this with genuine interest and I would like to know how can a herbal product be as powerful or effective as a hormone - not just a hormone but one that will need to 'over ride' the male ones? Are they - or can they be that effective?

Do NOT waste your money or your health! They don't work!

Only take prescription hormones and only under medical supervision

The human body is not something to mess around with, just because you fancy trying the fair side for a change!

Honestly Tat4trannies (Transformations) is the biggest rip off EVER!

Many thanks for your further advice, I'm not in the medical system as a TS. I'm embarrassed about raising it with my GP. Should I go to the Charing Cross Gender Clinic? Or can you recommend any other place either on NHS or private?
