Being Dutch I always understood that prostitution was illegal in the UK. Had a bit of a shock once while googling for a massage therapist in London! Here in the Netherlands when you ask for a massagist, you GET one.. not a hooker! Heh.. anyway.. I don't really understand how prostitution can be illegal while pro-dommes apperantly are totally legal? Seeing how people are bluntly advertising here with pictures and fees and everything. Is it only legal when there is strictly no sex involved? Does that mean lapdances and strippers are legal then?

Bit confused here. If anyone is bored enough to give a Dutchie a brief explanation then please do!

Prostitution in itself isn't illegal. Things such as soliciting, running a brothel etc are (this can cause problem with double domme sessions).

In terms of pro dommes there is a long running discussion about whether or not domination is prostitution. It depends on your take on it, what definition of sexual services you use and what actually happens in the dungeon (and other things too)

In the UK, prostitution is wholly legal where everything is negotiated between the buyer and the seller of the service, nobody else is involved in the 'food chain', she did not 'walk the streets', he did not 'kerb crawl' and neither the man or the girl advertised. Simple, really!

But advertising prostitution, controlling them, living off their earnings, providing somewhere to work from, two girls living under the same roof whilst one is working, (even if it's a mum and her adult daughter), are all illegal. Plus several other similar offences.

In English criminal law it is presumed that if a man pays a woman for her time in private, then it is prostitution, whether it is pro-domming, vanilla sex or whatever.

(I would not for a moment presume to suggest a pro-domme is a prostitute in my mind; just reporting the official view.)

Lots of professional masseuses, who only do that, have been put in the difficult and embarrassing position of being prosecuted and having to try to prove that was all they do.

Really? I mean, surely, in a criminal case 'beyond reasonable doubt', beats 'presumption'. I'm shocked if this is true. I must warn my dentist, PT, therapist, and cleaner :-D

Sounds a bit like our weed policy then... doesn't make a whole lot of sense ;)

So.. does that mean that prostitutes also pay taxes? If it's not an illegal profession than I assume they do? Or is this the kinda 'legal' where no one cares about the crackwhore behind central station but god forbid someone tries to get things in a clean, safe and controlled environment?

A lot of prostitutes do pay tax. As do pro-dommes. Which is funny because it means the Government is living off immoral earnings.

That is indeed the case; but when did hypocrisy worry a government?

No doubt that if they do make it illegal to pay for sex, (and in their definition this will almost certainly include pro-dommes where no sex takes place), as is currently being talked up, as it is now in Sweden, they will still expect tax and NI to be paid.

Not entirely sure how accurate it is, but this might help explain the inexplicable - i.e. British Sex Laws.

Crucially, they're not talking about making it illegal to be paid for sex, which means they can have their pseudo-feminist cake and still eat the tax off it.

I cannot see the government making paying for sex illegal for several reasons. First, the government is looking for every possible way to raise tax they can and secondly it can be argued that when something becomes illegal it is driven underground making it difficult to investigate any other crime related to it.
