The more sharp eyed amongst you who have been to Nem over the last 6-8 weeks will have noticed an abundance of buckets scattered around the place to catch dripping water. In fact over the last 6 weeks we have had 6 floods.

This situation has been ongoing for 3 years now, with constant promises from the landlords to fix the roof. In fact we have letters from them dated January 2007 that tells us that 'the commencement of work on the roof is imminent'!

Nemesis staff have spent lots of time on the other end of pumps and vaxs' sucking out up to 5” of water on many occasions, days and days have been spent drying the club out and making good the water damage to the walls and kit so that the club could open as normal.

The management team decided a few months ago that it was becoming an unworkable situation and the hunt started for new premises. Not an easy task in itself

  • To find a suitable venue where the landlords wouldn't have apoplexy when they discovered what sort of business their prospective tenants were in
  • Somewhere that had a reasonable enough rent to be supported by 3-4 opening nights a month.
  • A venue that would allow us to put into practice the lessons learned at the old venue to make it better

Now the plan was to get the new venue ready whilst the old one was open and to move seamlessly into the new premises. However events have overtaken us and we find that in the best traditions of Murphey's Law, that is no longer possible

The roof at Nem has deteriorated to a point where a section has collapsed, the landlords are not in a hurry to repair it {we think there is another agenda at play here} and we obviously cannot operate without a roof.

Sadly then…Nem is closed until further notice.

Memberships will be frozen from 1st Feb and will be reactivated on the opening of the new venue, the search for which will start in earnest this week.

Good luck with the venue search. I guess you aren't looking in the Widnes area. And let me know if you need a hand setting up the new place when you get it.

The Babylon project was our last best hope for peace. It failed.
In the year of the Shadow war it became something greater. Our last best hope for victory.
The year is 2260. The place, Babylon 5.

Not a Nemesis member, but have attended various events at the excellent venue. Sorry to hear of your problems

Is it worth contacting an estate agent? Another thought - every cloud has a silver lining, maybe the current downturn in commercial property will mean landlords will be come less choosy about their tenants...

Thats really sad - was a great club, something really special. I'd just like to add, that whilst I realise this is really hard to achieve - somewhere nearer a main city woudl be great, so that people could taxi it in from there...we would have loved to go to nem more, but sadly with no car it was too hard for us without a lift
