A Warning to anyone planning to see this movie... make sure you have a strong stomach!!!

Oh and it's really not a good idea to have a cappuchino, followed by popcorn and coke before the movie starts.... it nearly came back up again!! I managed to fight it off though... very proud of myself!

And I thought I had a fairly strong stomach... nice one Tim Burton!

Yes Johnny was very good and Helena BC.

I was pleased I sat through the rest... 2 people walked out after the first slit throat and didn't return! I think it's the cinema thing for me.. makes the yukk factor worse.. I've seen Hostel etc on DVD and been fine.

At least I didn't throw up over the blokes head in front!

I've seen it 3 times and its great, although annoying how a certain someone now calls me Sweeney, as my surname is the same as his.

My dear blue_belle and I went to see it as our wedding anniversary evening out. We loved it.

We are big Burton/Depp/Bonham-Carter fans anyway, so seeing them both in shabby victoriana goth outfits was a real treat. Very pleased that they kept Sondheim's songs and score largely unchanged. Alan Rickman is always worth seeing, and playing Judge Turpin gave him a great opportunity to deploy his trademark sneer to magnificent effect.

As for the gore factor - it really was more grand guignol (I can spell it, but don't ask me to pronounce it :) ) than the slasher film type gore, great sprays of blood that really looked too theatrical to take seriously.

The heads cracking on the cellar floor though - bit more of an impact, if you'll excuse the obvious pun.

I don't want to give too much away to those who might be waiting to see the film, but I thought Mrs Lovett's seaside fantasy was classic Burton, the "goths in sunny technicolour surroundings" that he did so well in Edward Scissorhands, with Johnny looking marvellously like a puppet with his strings cut. Or the puppeteer from Ian Miller's illustration "Death in the rocking horse factory" (Love an obscure reference).

Wonderful fetishy gothy imagery all through the film, and fine melodramatic revenge tragedy to hang it all on.

Beautiful. Can't wait for the DVD.

Anyone seen the Sweeney Todd shaving kits they're releasing? ;) Of course what I need to go with it is a really good strop. :-D

J.

Edited for typo.

We'll have an adventure, I'm bored with just love.
A fairy tale with a sting in the tail, tonight we'll draw blood...

I sighed a deep sigh when I saw the film first advertised; it seems like another excuse for yet more black eye-make-up excess and OTT posturing by Depp 'n' Bonham Carter, neither of whom I like particularly. I guess it's just me.

I enjoyed Ray Winstone's portrayal of Sweeney Todd, recently televised, a master-class in restraint vs. violence.

We watched it yesterday at our house with a couple of friends, and it's not that gory, i've seen worse gory movies before :-p

But despite not being that gory, must admit that it is quite a good movie :)

The only bit i didn't like was when the body's went down the shoot and hit the floor with a horrible thud.
