So whats wrong with calling ourselves fetishists - alot better than perverts which I consider that is a name that will never be disassociated with rapists ect etc Enjoy BDSM responsibly

But it will be...see thats part of our purple plan for world domination lol...well acceptance. Shame though world domination could be so much fun
Seriously though see my other posts Im completely (bet I spelt that wrongly but I'm sure someone will let me know if I did lol) for taking this word and making it ours. Maybe this is what you get for having a feminist perv in your midst

I prefer "kinky" to "perverted" as a word - it has less of an association with paedophilia. It's also useful when coaxing a vanilla - being kinky is fun, being a pervert is wrong in the eyes of most of society. As such, I have no problem being out to my friends and colleagues as "kinky". Problem is, there no accepted word to describe a kinky person. A Kinkster? or being more rad and hip: Kinksta?

Saying I am kinky or a fetishist is far more appealing to me personally. I am not ashamed to tell everyone that I am. However, I would be outraged if someone called me a pervert. No matter how tougne in check it was.

We wear pilchards! This whole thing started as a discussion of an act of solidarity, with the throwaway suggestion that if we all thought of pilchards at the same time, the act of solidarity would be achieved simply because each person thinking of pilchards would know that they weren't the only one doing so. from here it moved on to wearing purple, but still with the idea that no one would actually have to out themselves, there would be no requirement to say why you were doing it, or ask anyone else if their purple attire signified something specific. Now, I am well known for my deep seated hatred of the colour purple (it is one of my better known quirks) and believe me someone I know would notice if there was any visible purple about my person - which would lead to a demand for explanation and, as this has now got a profile, probably a good guess as to why! So, as what appeals so much to me about this idea is how simply knowing that others are doing what i'm doing will connect me to the other kinky folk, I will have a can of pilchards about my person on 21st - and knowing that my pilchards are in lieu of purple I will be able to connect to the solidarity element :D If folks want to let the slogan evolve next year then so be it - but believe me, this year we will have Perverts Wear Purple. It is 'out there' now, the press have it and it is just too good for them to pass up.....whatever we call it, if it appears in the press I would be staggered if they call it anything else

Which is probably a good enough reason NOT to wear purple Enjoy BDSM responsibly

Exactly. Fetish is a much more accurate word without the negative connotation. The whole point is to enhance the image of BDSM!!

So what would kinsters wear..? Hmmm? There's no colours starting with "k" that I can think of. How does "BDSMers wear beige" sound..? Interesting colour beige. That's how you can tell the difference between your wife, your mistress and a prostitute. When you finish making love to your mistress, she says "That was wonderful darling." When you finish making love to a prostitute, she says "That will be sixty pounds, thank you." And when you finish making love to your wife, she says "Beige..." "Yes..." "I think we'll have the ceiling beige." *ducks* (fast) Prof Tim There are two distinct people who inhabit this body. I am my own evil twin . . . Edited 11 Jan 08, 6:19 PM by Beau_Tox

Many people here aren't fetishists A fetish is (roughly speaking) a sexual attraction to a non-sexual thing - rubber, leather, feet, shoes, elbows, bicycles, car crashes etc. There is no fetish in BDSM in my view! Finding a word which everyone would be happy with is going to be very hard with such a diverse community.
