2007.
My parents have played a big part in this year. At the start of the year they lived in a big bungalow on top of a mountain. They are both in poor health and not getting any better. The bungalow was far too big for them and the location meant they could not walk anywhere they had to go by car.
Hive and I sort of gave then a big nudge. Now they are living in a Retirement Apartment in a lovely picturesque town just fifteen minutes away. Though their physical health has not improved their outlook on life has. My dad was sitting in front of the telly waiting to die. He only went out for hospital appointments. Now he is out and about and he is enjoying the community side of the apartments. Mum is able to go into town with her zimmer and do the shopping. She has company in the communal lounge if dad is in bed poorly. The apartments are all new and all the residents are pulling together organising events and looking after each other.
This has taken a burden off Hive and I. We still go down and see them as much as possible and we clean the apartment while we are there. However we know they are no longer prisoners in their own home. Last night my dad took ill. He has a really bad cold and with all his illnesses it really pulls him down. It was about 9.30 when dad could not get his breath and mum decided she wanted an ambulance. In the past it would have been a phone call to us at the same time as one for the ambulance.
Last night mum just pulled the emergency cord in their apartment and the apartment manager was there in a flash. He phoned the ambulance and arranged everything for my mum including getting in touch with my sister to come and collect her daughter who was visiting my parents. Dad was put on oxygen and a nebuliser and today is home and feeling much better.
So 2008 looks like a much happier year for my parents.
Hive and I spent some of our savings on our garden. We had a six foot fence put up and a patio laid. Its fab and all we need now is some good weather in 2008 so we can enjoy it.
I am hoping that 2008 is the year I get nice skin. The doctor told me it would be six weeks on the little green tablets before I saw any difference. However ten days in and my face is looking a lot calmer. I have a real good feeling about this treatment.
Hive and I visited my brother and his wife in Inverness at the beginning of the year. After too much hospitality the subject of my brothers 50th birthday came up. He will be 50 in 2008. He wanted to celebrate by walking the West Highland Way again. Nothing special about that for them. They have done it about six times now. However this time he wants me to go to……ME. Now if you don't know me I am old fat and very unfit. Well I was at that time.
I made no promises and I still haven't. Hive and I have however started walking. We had if we are honest started before we made the visit but the visit spurred us on. I can now do 10 miles, it nearly kills me but I can do it. I still struggle with the mountains but I just do them slowly and keep stopping. I know I am getting fitter. I just wish winter had not arrived as it has really slowed us down. Not just the dark nights and cold wet weather but also the niggling illnesses that come along at this time of year. One or other of us seemed to have been ill for most of November and December.
So 2008 is a year to walk and hopefully get a little bit fitter.
We missed getting out and about this year and very much missed seeing friends. Hopefully 2008 will be different and on the 17th of January Miss Molly is over from Ireland so a good start to the year.
Hive's work has been as demanding as ever. After a phone call yesterday and another today it looks like 2008 will not be any less demanding. It looks like we will be heading off to London on Wednesday and may not be back until the 17th to pick up Molly. They did want him in London for a complete month but Miss Molly is more important.
My ex husband got married. I wish him and his new wife all the best for the future.
This is the special bit
Last but not least Hive got his divorce through just a few days before Christmas. It was the best Christmas present we could get. It has taken almost seven years to get. It's a long story and not that interesting. Let's just say his ex is a bitch.
So 2007 not a bad one however 2008 just may be a special one.
Happy New Year to you all.
