crying

Last night I cried whilst I was being beaten and I don't know why.

Not little tears down the cheek, but big wracking sobs, loud enough to wake the dead. I was being hit by something thuddy on my back and though it hurt it wasn't unbearable. And suddenly I burst into tears. I got asked if I was ok but my mind was a blank void, a bottomless pit, and I didn't know why I cried or if I was ok or not. My mum says that having a good cry can make everything better, though I don't know what was wrong to make better.

Crying like this sometimes happens during deep tissue massage too. The theory about that is that we hold memories and their emotions deep in our tissues and that the massage squeezes out the emotions as well as the tensions. Since this was deep thuddy beating it may have had the same effect. If so, the blank feeling is typical of the after the release feeling of letting something go. You may never know what it was since it was probably wordless but sometimes if you think you can identify images or voices floating through your mind at the time which give you a clue what is coming out.
