I feel for you, my Dad died in exactly the same way.
Very suddenly, lying in bed next to mum, I can never imagine what she went through.
She lived on with out him for a further seven years until her time came. She was never quite the same without him, but she did show great strength in carrying on the way she did for as long as she did. We all learned a great deal from her during that time.
I still miss them both everyday.
I hope that you have the friends that I have because they are the ones who will help you much more than you can know right now.
Wishing you well, and it is true,
life does go on, but it's never easy.

All my heartfelt sympathies, Flaire xxx I'm just glad you have loved ones around you who can help support you and your mum, and make the burden a little easier to bear. Hugs xx ... fantasy is the proper riposte to the miseries of life (Sebastian Horsley, explaining why it is that Tintin never has sex)

I know how you feel..my dad died 3 weeks ago. He had been in a care home 2 years ..and had dementia....he had his dinner and went !! In his case a blessing in disguise. To see someone waste away and return to a baby-like state before your very eyes is not a thing I would wish anyone to go through.

I completely agree - a mercy is what my dad had - my mother wasted away too and lost her mind before finally finding peace. It's aweful beyond imagining to see them waste away and stop being who they are Miss Kitty
