I know i am going to regret saying this but i am going to say it anyway. and yes i know i said earlier lets not get into a thread war but i get bugged with everyone jumping on the diability bandwagon and diluting the essence of understanding what its like to be permanently disabled. I believe migraines and epilepsy diabetes are in the main disabling conditions that affect a persons ability to function on an everyday level when they are suffering from an attack. This is quite different from being permanently disabled.

no no no no no no no no no n o n o no heirarchies of impairment!! the whole point of access is if you think about it LOADS of people have all sorts of access needs. Personally I'd be for a straight ban on strobe lighting, because of issues already pointed out, and also because people with epilepsy and people who use sign language to communicate, people who lip read, most visually impaired people, and more all experience access issues because with strobe lighting. I hate it too and I only have a slight double vision due to my endocrine disease. even some of us with walking related impairments can find the interruption of vision doesn't help us keep stable on our feet whilst clinging to the walls and furniture. i bet I've missed people out too. if it's a barrier and stops someone being there, it's a disability access issue. it doesn't matter whether it's a strobe induced migrane or lack of straws at the bar for someone with cerebral palsy. the idea is we show willing to remove all removable barriers when necessarry. the biggest thing of all is being willing to discuss access and show willing to make possible adjustments where needed. completely agree. "degrees" of disability helps no-one and is ignorant in the extreme. The last thing any of us need is a my disability is worse/better than yours scenario. And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

To the op, while I think on the outside this is a great idea, I can see it having some limitations... LAM offering to pay for updated facilities at a venue they hire is probably going to be amongst one of the few places that it can happen, most events just about break even... As far as I can tell (and we had to look into disabled access when we were looking at venues for kinklusive, and also alternative venues for the Manchester Munch) the main problem with BDSM events is finding a venue that is happy to have you use the space.... I know in manchester trying to find one that also has great or even passable disabled facilities is almost impossible! Not saying don't do it (although as an able bodied person I can't help) just saying please be careful when offering your advice to people who run events... If they have struggled to find a venue, or are struggling financially to keep it going then they might feel a little put out... maybe it's just me with a dirty mind then....
