This is probably to the hour, three years exactly since I first signed up to IC.
The first year I was definitely finding my feet, and coming to terms with all the things that it suddenly felt okay to be (like a sadist, a Dominant, a crossdresser). Lots of cyber relationships that helped my test-drive the emotional bonds involved. Also, getting involved in the Backlash campaign.
In the second year, I had my first real-life BDSM relationship. My confidence had built immeasurably over the first year or so, I had lifted out of a debilitating episode of depression, and in the summer it began to pay off.
And in the last year, I have been searching again for a long-term partner, and getting even more involved politically with debates around BDSM. I've had to deal with more depression, alas, which hasn't always helped with either of those things. I've started a blog elsewhere which deals with BDSM, gender politics, and all sorts of whatever grabs my interest.
And every step (even the painful ones) has, I think, been worth taking.
