Well its so useful isn't it?! Take the wide range of artificial light, for example, instantly available to us all, yet so often taken for granted.
Used with intelligence light can influence mood in an instant. Take the soft and gentle romance of bulbs dimmed as low as candlelight then compare it to the stark brutality of intense, white spotlight.
I have sat in a cell bathed in dimmed red light and felt the surrealism of being nowhere swimming in nothingness. Then been sat in exactly the same small space totally grounded and acutely aware of myself revealed simply because the light was now bright and white - leaving me feeling totally vulnerable with nowhere to hide.
As a tool to inflict sensations electricity can rarely be beaten. From the sweet caress of sparks tickling the most sensitive areas of skin to the beauty of violet lightning (hypnotic in its living art) leaving a trail of scarlet wheals which always fade far faster than i would have them do.
