I'm probably going to piss you off here and if I do it's not intentional but doesn't this seem to be a contradiction in terms?

In my view we all have a Dominant side and we all have a submissive side. It's just that for some the extreme Dominant end of the spectrum naturally prevails and for others the extreme submissive end of the spectrum naturally prevails. Then there's everything else in between...

I think people see what they want to see. Being new I have received a lot of memos. In my profile I have stated that I am naturally dominant, but also have a submissive streak which I would like to explore. I therefore now consider myself as a switch. However, the only people who seemed to recognise this were mostly other switches. The Doms wrote to me as if I was 100% sub. The subs wrote to me as if I was 100% Domme. A few Doms have suggested that they will soon get rid of any annoying little Domme tendencies I might have. These 'tendencies' are an intrinsic part of me and I have no wish whatsoever to lose them! The subbie streak is something that I wish to understand - I can choose to submit my body, but I will never submit my mind.

Oddly enough, I've had it from the other side. I'm dominant, and I don't switch. But I've had someone imply that because I don't switch, I am somehow less than him - that I am choosing to only embrace one side of the SM/Ds equation and therefore can never be quite as valid an SMer as someone who switches.

Hear, hear! And especially as being rather new to the 'scene' - I've sometimes had that somewhat smug 'look' that implies I've not been around long enough to know my orientation yet and one day I will 'discover my submissive side'.

I'm not the only one that's met with that then.

That's exactly what I mean ... the 'silly girl, of course you are really submissive, you just don't know it yet' attitude.

18 years behind the Broom and proud of it! But I'm not a switch.

I genuinely didn't know that switches got a hard time. I know a few switches and they always seem to have fun and that's what it's all about after all.

As a Witch I have never had a bad experience, the worst I ever come across is a few lines from Monty Python. Maybe I've just been lucky. All my close friends know and the majority of my aquaintences, I don't go round in the pointy hat all the time but I never hide it if I'm asked, for instance, everyone at work knows I never work 21st June or 31st October. And people seem intersted in the alter and broom and stuff scattered around the house. It's me, my attitude is if you don't like it then there are about 5,999,999,999 other people in the world to choose from.

Well, you didn't quote the rest of my sentence where I said "... and if one day I discover pleasure in submission...". I was saying that my mind is open to the *possibility* that at some point in the future I may wish to submit, simply because it's not a literal *impossibility*. At present, never having submitted, or wished to do so, or been able to envisage a situation in which I might wish to do so, even looking at it with the greatest possible impartiality I can detect no evidence of switch tendencies! However, even I am not going to claim to be able to predict the future!

When I was talking about people's attitudes and bullshit, I was referring to their attitudes to me as a Domme, not to their attitudes to switches or to anybody's personal orientation or practice.

As you say, that's your view. I have as yet been unable to dig up any evidence of subly tendencies in myself, and that is not because I have anything 'against' subs, or switches, or anyone anywhere on the spectrum. I guess it's just a total absence of submission. As I said before, I can't predict the future, but I'll cross that bridge if I come to it!

I agree.

I top. I love topping. It's bloody great fun. I love it, I love it, I love it! However, the thought of bottoming does absolutely nothing for me, it really doesn't interest me at all.

I know bottoms who live for it. They enjoy everything about it. For them, the thought of topping anyone just goes against their natural grain.

So there we go, two sides of the fence. Both groups on either side, enjoying their own side.

BUT...

Then you get these freak switches who run up and down the fence itself! Us tops and bottoms sit on our respective sides watching these weirdos jumping to an fro from one side of the fence to the other, having equal fun on BOTH sides!

[Who's got the better deal? Hmmmm, I think I know. Good on you, switches, that's what I say!]

Regards,

Pierced Knight.

I've tried bottoming. For about thirty seconds. It completely ruined play for the rest of the evening as I had to sit down and restrain the impulse to cause actual bodily harm (not just SM stuff) to the person who had dared to try to dom me. And that was when I had agreed to it as a demonstration of a particular technique.

I find bottoming/subbing an active turn-off - so are you really saying I might have more fun as as switch? Or are you saying that as a non-switching domme, I can't possibly have as much fun as you under any circumstances?
