I got this in the post today from Amazon It is available to buy at £13.75 ex postage and something I'm quite happy to recommend.

#3 in the SM - Tech series.

This one was titled

Rope Bondage Precision and persuasion with rope Presented by Scott Smith

--------

I have to say I really enjoyed the dvd presentation. The book that comes with it is essentially a transcript but handy nonetheless to have to hand.

A bit like having a fly in the wall perspective on an American rope workshop really -

It was great! Simple, digestible and covered a wide range of effective uncomplicated techniques for take down scenarios. That's an area of bondage I find myself really getting into these days.

I also liked how he would discuss multiple ways of doing a certain tie and its function as well as the merits and cons of each different technique.

It's no great big lecture either - sort of practical one on one, no nonsense advice that isn't wrapped up in technical jargon. You then come away with the feeling that you could do that - it's simple to pick up, leaving you rearing to get stuck in!

Whilst I know it isn't strictly rope bondage related; he also discussed various handcuffing methods including how to modify a pair of chain cuffs - and other neat little tricks in restraint - that I really appreciated.

It's given me renewed inspiration and a different perspective on rope use. (Thanks Scott Smith!)

-------

We all like different things. Certainly I would say that if you were an advanced rope practitioner you would find what was covered quite elementary.

I just enjoyed it as a refresher and there were certainly techniques I could see being used quite tactically for a take down.

For example the way he employed use of a cats paw may be an idea to be taken forgranted by some. I still thought that it was a nice idea for persons who perhaps had never thought of using rope in that fashion. (IE, to loop the rope first on the Dominant's own hand and pass it over to the sub's wrist whilst in grasp before pulling the ends to tighten ala lasso style)

So I suppose a caveat would be best. If you would like to brush up on elementary technique for quick restraint - perhaps this might be one to look at.

If you are into japanese and pretty bondage - this really isn't one to go for.

Heya ;)

I should really add that it is very basic.

I look at it as a nice little refresher but i think if you are already well accomplished, you may be disappointed ;)

The knots discussed were as follows :

Overhand Square Larks Head Prusiks Half hitch Truckers hitch Butterfly Cats paw Bowline and sheepshank.

What i also liked was his discussion of safety techniques. I found myself agreeing with him about how a sharp serrated knife with a blunt point is much more effective than EMS shears for cutting through rope.

Thats true - I've taken to carrying a pair of good Garden Secateurs in my kit rather than EMS shears.

Cheers :)

I have recently changed over to one of these, the blunt pointed version, which is street legal as a rescue tool - mine has the orange handle. It's the best rope and strap cutter I've found. It's available in the UK on ebay, and from here

If enough people were interested, I might organise a bulk buy.

Hmm....that dvd sounds good.

Hear what you say about it not being 'rope technique' exactly. I'm really into take down stuff too you see. Love to be able to take down a strong guy with clever moves.

And Prof...yes, that bear claw is reeeeeal purdy aint it. And you can get blunt pointed version? I'm in!

Bossman and I just tried the rope bondage thing. We Loved it! We learned the basics of it from a documentary called "Fetish:Pleasure or Pain?"

The only thing truly informative and interesting about this DVD was the "Rope Bondage 101" segment...but it provided insipration that caused me to be totally still for 6 hours while being "dressed" in this 50-ft rope! It was the most fun we've had in a while!

I'll be showing this thread to Master, for sure!
