The recent tragic deaths of three people I knew made me think about how I really should get some life insurance sorted.

I didn't want a vast sum – just enough to cover funeral expenses with a wee amount left over.

So I applied to a large company which gave what appeared to be a decent price for what I required.

Computer said no.

I wrote to them and asked why and it was down to the fact that I have a diagnosed psychiatric condition, which, according to them, makes me more likely to either kill myself or be more likely to have an accident. How they come to this conclusion with what my GP had written in his report is beyond me!

Now – if I decided that life simply was not worth living and terminated my existence then the policy would not have paid out anyway! Therefore, what the fuck does it matter to them if I get suicidal? They would have had X amount of monthly payments from me and had nothing to pay out in the end!

As for accidents – I am no more accident prone than any other person I know – sane or insane! Have managed to go 43 years without being taken to A&E!

I did a bit of checking with those in the know and it may well be that there would be a case to answer in respect of them being in violation of the DDA, but you know, I can't be arsed pursuing it. I will simply never use the company or any of their offshoots for anything ever again – so it's their loss not mine.

I found an insurance company that specialises in pre-existing medical conditions: The Insurance Surgery and await their quote.

Are you sure you didn't tell them you were a part time dragon slayer? ;-)

I get offered insurance all the time, I tell them I dont need it as I'm an immortal leech with an army of undead.

Seriously though.. I hope you get something sorted out .

Even cardboard caskets cost around £130 and in this country there is no alternative but to be cremated or buried, both of which costs money and neither of which I think those I leave behind should have to shell out for - hence the reason for wanting an insurance policy.

I have the same problem getting insurance because of the breast cancer so I started an endowment policy instead.

Keep looking not all are so short sighted I have had inflated quotes and terms and conditions attached to life insurance policies because of depression but there are a few reasonable ones out there I think I'm with legal and general right now so they may be worth a try if you haven't tried them already.

Saff

I get knocked down, I get up again, yes I'm a stubborn bitch but you got to roll with the knocks and get up stronger and wiser................I hope he he!!!

apply to your local undertaking firm and purchase a funeral bond which gives you the right to leave behind all the preparations already made by yourself and the ones left have nothing to do but adhere to your wishes. That way you can spend as little or as much as you want on your funeral and you have made the decision.

My parents took out bonds when they first came on to the market when they died everything was arranged. Recently my Father died aged 92 when he bought his bond it cost him £300 if he had not had that bond it would have cost us £3000 for his funeral and that was just a simple funeral.

It saves a lot of hassle for those left behind and at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that whatever you decide to have its your choice and even if you survive many years after purchase they cannot charge your family any more than is already been paid.

Hope this helps as this way you do not need an insurance policy to pay for it you have already done it
