i can recommend the same ebay seller...i've had no problems using her ropes for non suspension bondage...easy to care for and eminently re-usable

when i first needed rope i went for what was cheapest in my local hardware store. it was orange, plastic, and bit like fuck. pretty soon my partner and i realised that something else was needed and he bought some magician's rope off ebay (but i dont know what seller, though may be the one already mentioned). the rope is soft and strong and i certainly wouldnt consider it disposable. we haven't tried any suspension stuff with it, mind. and i'm talking as a sub here, i have exactly zero knowledge about anything from a top point of view, but i do recommend it to other people because it's just so wonderful in contrast to what we had before, which was just evil.

As a member of the IBM, I use magicians rope for many things including play...I also amuse the play partner with cut and restored rope routines...

The biggest problem with this type of rope is the fact that it's a natural fibre inner and outer, with the outer being a braid. As a result the outer will always dry perfectly whereas there's no way of ensuring that the inner has also. Mould and rot can occur within the central core without you noticing because the outer braid is solid. It will work perfectly right up until the time it doesn't and it will fail without warning. The second biggest problem is that as a natural fibre the properties of the actual fibres differ and that can provide inconsistant results. It is sold as Magicians Rope and I think I can guarantee that wherever you buy it from you will find no details on breaking strain or load capacity from any manufacturer simply because it was never designed for or intended to be used for load bearing work. Especially not for loads that can move, just look up static and dynamic loading to see the differences in what a person weighs and what strain the rope may be under. NEVER EVER USE THIS ROPE FOR SUSPENDING ANYONE! unless of course you really don't give a damn if they die and you have unlimited personal liability insurance. Just because it didn't fail you last time doesn't mean it won't under the exact same circumstances this time, and if you can't rely on it every time you're a fool to use it and you don't deserve the trust of the person you're trying to suspend. It's fine for non loadbearing bondage, decorative work and it's cheap but I recommend paying more for rope that can do everything you want it to without having to carry one for suspension and one for floor based work. Cotton rope isn't very strong due to the fibres being very very short, it's soft on the skin and handles well. I have some but never use it, it shrinks when you wash it, is too absorbent for my liking, has no real 'look' to it, shrinks every time you wash it and you can't use it for anything with much tension in as it just tears apart. I use white nylon (both woven and laid) and coloured nylon (woven) for most things but mostly I use hemp, I process and sell my own 6mm, see link below. Thank you to everyone who has replied. It's going to be a long time before I am skilled enough to attempt any suspension work so the magicians rope should be fine to begin with. The shop I heard about is indeed Davenports at Charing Cross and I plan to go down there this weekend. Based on what everyone has said my only remaining concern about the rope is that it might be a bit too thick for some applications, so I may also take a trip to B&Q to see if I can score some 6mm nylon rope.

Check the options menu for 100m for under £30. This company is owned by some very good friends of mine. Highly recommended. Knowing others is intelligence, Knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength, Mastering yourself is true power -Lao-Tzu |
