The Naming Of Names: Part One (3)

Recently I've been reflecting on my choice of, for want of a better word, “scene” name and more particularly how its adoption helps with my Internal Surrender.

I spent quite a long time trying to come up with a name that expressed a major and evolving facet of my nature and which also reflected on a heritage that I'm very proud of. I suppose at the time it was as much a branding exercise as anything else: I wanted it to say something vital about me but I wanted it to say it with some ambiguity and perhaps with enough of a mystery to tempt certain people to dig a little deeper.

A couple of years down the road however and I find that it has actually become a useful focus for what I want to become. The "feitheachd" persona is an exaggerated version of the “real” me, a version that I can sometimes fully inhabit but which more usually exists as a friendly but pointed reminder of what I can be.

To paraphrase my signature quotation: "act the way you can and should be, and you will become as you can and should be."

I too like the association of "naming" with a type of "psychological branding". It is something I have discussed with my Mistress The Marquise when she chose my new name. See my profile for a little more about what it meant to us. I see it is as offering a set of boundaries within which you can develop. Naming is linked to the definition of identity. In certain forms of Shamanism to know someone's true name is to have power over them. All interesting.
