I notice that there are entries for some fetish events (London Alternative Market, London Fetish Fair etc). Is there guidance on what should and should not be included in an entry for a fair, club or event? Should they be included at all? This is a really tricky one: I don't think it's worthwhile duplicating the information in the listings on IC in the Dictionary, as it will get out of date very quickly. However, there are some events that have enough "cultural" and historical significance that it's a bit unnatural to leave them out. I'm thinking of the Skin Two Rubberball for example, or SM Pride's old Pervefest days that existed before KinkFest. But if some events are included, where to the draw the line, and how to deal with organisers who want to post a lot of hype? What does everyone feel about this? Tanos M/s and in the UK? How about including regular events, monthly clubs and annual events, with a consistent description format making comparison easier and bypassing the spin and hype altogether. Mark

How about using the reviews from blogs as adding to info on venues. This will show, over time, how a venue is faring, whether it is on the up or down, restrictions, available equipment and so on. Similar blog type build-up for equipment could be useful if trivia is culled. This from someone who doesn't blog! Tony A dedicated rubberman.

nonsense! A dictionary is a dictionary syndee screeched. You can't put proper nouns in there, tish tosh! I'm sure Dr Johnson wouldn't tolerate it, so why should we? "To every place of entertainment we go with expectation and desire of being pleased; we meet others who are brought by the same motives; no one will be the first to own the disappointment; one face reflects the smile of another, till each believes the rest delighted, and endeavours to catch and transmit the circulating rapture. In time, all are deceived by the cheat to which all contribute. The fiction of happiness is propagated by every tongue, and confirmed by every look, till at last all profess the joy which they do not feel, consent to yield to the general delusion, and, when the voluntary dream is at an end, lament that bliss is of so short a duration." "Dictionaries are like watches: the worst is better than none, and the best cannot be expected to go quite true." edited to say I could have used Balderdash! but see how succinct I can be when I want to be, pedantoriously synd I feel like a pig shat in my head. I second the above. A defining difference between a dictionary and an encylopaedia is the inclusion of proper nouns. You might, for example, include an entry; 'Rubber ball' which explained that this is an event where attendees would tend to wear rubber. But not The Rubber Ball. On a practical note - and speaking as a Wikipedian - arguments about notability are difficult, because it essentially comes down to everyone involved just stating their point of view. Wikipedia has enough people dedicated to policing the Three Revert Rule and checking up on changes. IC doesn't.

As an event organiser, I don't believe that events should be listed in the dictionary. In regards to more 'historical' events such as pervefest...perhaps there is a call for just that...a historical forum, where articles could be perhaps submitted to admin, who can then check them and post them up? (I would suggest replies not allowed as it would be about historical events not discussions?). BV Sometimes there simply are no words......at other times 'You filthy little cock sucking whore' seems to work just fine |
