Right Im not a happy bunny.
I went and got my Monroe piercing done on Wednesday. Im not a newbie to piercings, at present I have my labret, tongue, navel, nostril and ears pierced and in the past have had eyebrows and tragus done.
But, when the guy pierced me, didnt really feel a thing as usual, but then he put the jewellery in and it suddendly started to feel really tight and I was then in pain..he took it out and put the needle back in to keep the hole open. My face started swelling up like fuck. His reaction was 'Oh shit' and said he had to run downstairs to the reception and get an even bigger bar as he didnt anticipate my face to swell up this much. So he left me, on my own, lying on my side, clamped with a huge fuck off needle through my mouth, blood trickling into my mouth.
He came back up after about 3 or 4 minutes, put the other jewellery in and told me to lie down for a couple of minutes. I looked in the mirror and looked like I had been beaten up.
Anyway, off home I went and have done everything he said to look after it. Ive not drunk any alcohol whatsoever, been using Tech 2000 after everytime I eat, drink or smoke and have also been using antispetic solution to clean it twice a day and I have been taking Ibuprofen.
Then on Thursday I woke up with bruises on my actual lip and surrounded my piercing.
Its still swollen today, although not as much, but the bruises are looking darker now.
Any piercers out there give me advice, is this common to react like that and should I take the piercing out?
I would go to the place that pierced me, but after that experience Im somewhat wary of them, which is a shame as I have used that place for years.

No, I know its not infected, I think he might of hit a capillary to be honest, looking at how the bruising and the swelling is. Grrr, how annoying, I so wanted to go out partying tonight as well I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but theyve always worked for me - Hunter S Thompson

Sounds like he hit something. The same happened with my tongue web, my entire mouth swelled up, and I couldn't eat for days, whilst my best mate at the time who had hers done was busy playing tongue hockey with the local blokes. The second time I had it done, I felt nothing and it stayed normal size.
I just left it and it went down. If you hate a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then you'll be a mile away and have his shoes. http://obliterarti.wordpress.com/

that's weird, they're usually the best (I go there for all my piercings too). Had all of mine done by Julie so far. ------------------------------------------- This is the Island of Zombie Women

Seconded. Swelling reactions are reasonably common and should have been anticipated. I admit that it isn't common for things to swell significantly but for the tongue and lips/cheek it is very common. I think that so long as it is going down now you should be fine, and the bruising isn't a concern. The only potential worry is that you might have an allergic reaction to the metal, that can happen and one of the obvious sypmtoms is swelling/inflamation. If things look like they're calming down now then you're almost certainly fine. Steve -- http://ctrl-alt-date.com/

Tongue swelling is the most common one. All piercings can swell, but tongues are notorious for it. Thats why 99% of tongue piercings start of with a huge barbell! Steve

Ah, but the difference was it wasn't my tongue, was my tongue web. Shouldn't have been swollen in the slightest If you hate a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then you'll be a mile away and have his shoes. http://obliterarti.wordpress.com/

Well my swelling it turns out is because the guy hit my nerve. Ive had it checked now by a couple of people. Yeah im suprised with Cold steel, Ive had 5 piercings done there and theyve been great. Hmm, just bad luck this time I spose, cant be helped. I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but theyve always worked for me - Hunter S Thompson |
