Try Forsaken1. He and his lady wife are near London and may be able to help. Their range of corsets is rather good and speaking from experience their customer service is excellent.

Well I've never made a corset but I have made quite a few other items in my time and I have the facilities to sew just about anything.

What I'd suggest is get the name and address of the over the counter rubber / noprene support and see if you can find their website.

If I can see what it is you actually need then in all probability I can duplicate it in another material if someone can help with a bone supplier to get the required level of boning for you.

I was thinking of going to CCK this Friday if you want to chat in person about it.

Hi just a tip for bad back sufferers, I do regular floatation sessions to help with a some long term back and knee damage from a combination of car crashes and accidents. Prior to doing this I spent 2 years not being able to walk more than about 20 meters without being in pain.

The relaxation of the muscles and ligaments that you get when you are basically weightless goes a long way to helping your body repair itself.

Supports can help but in the long term you want a solutions as many long term support wearer will confirm, then can shift the problems to other areas.

There are also a number of good holistic practitioners about and at most large events you can usually find someone skilled at working on muscles with reflexology or raiki. A few years ago I rigged with a small group who would always end the evening using healing techniques to repair the sprains and strains of the evening play allowing them to recover faster and carry on playing the next day.

Good luck though I know how distressing back issues can be.

Are you secretly implying that you want to tie me up with ropes and hang me from the ceiling? :-D

Right...I'm going to go finish my schoolwork for tomorrow. *wanders off, far far away from the wolfman*

There was a corest maker from Edmonton at the Skin 2 Expo last year if it's any help - can't remember her name though :(

Possible problem you may have is that your body will become dependent on the support.

If you don't use muscles, you lose them, and wearing a corset day-to-day will ultimately weaken your back muscles rather than strengthen them, which will almost certainly cause more problems in the future

I'm sure that do are aware of this, but just in case...

Good luck with finding a local corset-maker. I figure that whether you actually wear it day-to-day or not, the fact of having such a thing on-hand could be a great source of relief.

You mention being a gymnast (or having been a gymnast). Do you see (or did you see) any physiotherapists about your back pain? I wonder whether specific exercise would be beneficial. I saw a sports physio by recommendation a few years ago when I had debilitating back-pain. Apart from good relief and manipulation, he gave me exercises to strengthen specific muscles in the lower back.

I have to admit that, eventually, the greatest benefit was occasioned by a change of job (less stress - less pain). But I think the exercise helped.

I had physio a few months ago for a back problem and the young girl physiotherapist started me out on pelvic floor exercises:-)

Seems they're very good for the lower back or so she said.

I also got myself an inversion table and that seemed to help a lot and it also has some intriguing possibilities for bedroom use too:-D

Hope things are getting better in the back department for you anyway.
