i'm not suggesting that they should cry when reading tragic news or jump up and down with glee on the odd occasion when the news is happy news, but i DO think that a little respectful indication of their humanity should appear on their fizogs.
"Fizogs"... now THERE'S an interesting word. i used to think that it was a Barnsley word but it ain't: it's a corruption of Physiognomy: "The face as an index of the mind".
There are some really crappy news readers who, quite apart from fucking about with our language, have the same expression on their Physiognomies when they read something bloody awful as they do when they report Thatcher falling down a flight of stairs.
On the other hand, there are some BRILLIANT news readers whose feelings come across very well indeed.
The ones who impress me most have the scars of working "in the field" on their fizogs: the ones who have risked, and sometimes lost, their lives in war zones so that we can form judgements from a safe distance.
Oh boy !! i'd love to read the news, there'd be no doubt at all where my anger and sympathies were directed but i doubt if i'd be brave enough to place myself in a situation where i was saying:
"This is mia...for ITN ...reporting from Baghdad." (Pengy would find the heat unbearable anyway)
I hope you'll join me in saying a prayer for all those brave men and women who place their lives in danger to bring us the truth and cut through the lies of propaganda.
A free press along with freedom of speech are the two most valuable assets any democracy could ever boast and i'm happy to say that we've managed to hang on to one of them....just.

Amen and well said. I know what you mean about some readers. I swear they are machines sometimes. LK Shit! That light at the end of the tunnel was just another damn train coming to run me over

Thatcher falling down a flight of stairs ? Did I miss that one ? Let's hope there's an open trap door into a twenty foot pit at the bottom of the stairs if she does...

Good grief, I haven't heard that word in years! My dad always used to use it. I'd always assumed it was an Indian word (or a corruption of one), same as he used to use Decko (sp?), picked up in the time he spend over there.
