They're all RAW files with an average size of 7.5 to 8 Mb. I don't think Myspace could cope with that. And I'm not sure I'd entrust Myspace with my handiwork either! And although I've got free broadband in the apartment I shudder to think what the upload time would be. But synchronicity being what it is... While out wandering this afternoon I came across one of those old fashioned shops. That seemed to stock just about everything electrical or electronic. A huge jumble of batteries and lightbulbs and all sorts of stuff. While trying to spot whether they had any memory cards and work out how many I might need (CF isn't cheap here, but very little is in Venice) a box gathering dust in the corner of the window caught my eye. A Packard Bell (remember them?) 300Gb external drive. For 119 euros. Which didn't seem too expensive at all. And the best thing was the box had an Italian flag on it with the magic words "disco rigido esterno". As they used to say in the American Express adverts: "That will do nicely." My carry-on bag was pushing the limit on the way out. Laptop, camera, three lenses, flashgun, spare batteries, card reader, assorted power supplies and chargers. I'll worry about how I squeeze the drive in as well later.

The latest sunset (with boats) is wonderful. Also love the single gondola. For some reason the contrast of the reflections in the water, and the reflections on the surface of the gondola really get me. Overall faves are 1) the arch, light and couple 2) the first two sunsets. I get what you mean about learning to SEE. Good luck with getting the new drive and other bits home.

Smiles. Thank you. For the techies amongst us. Very little post-processing in Photoshop. Taken with a Canon 70-300mm IS. Pretty much at full stretch. 200mm is just not long enough. The stabiliser is worth it's weight in gold when the conditions are borderline. And, as you can see, shooting straight into the light is rarely a problem.
It's interesting how different people see things in different ways. I hadn't consciously noticed that until you mentioned it. Whether it was a sub-conscious factor in me preferring that one over lots of other gondola shots, who knows...
A classic example of why you must always keep your eyes open. I'd done a series of shots of those arches earlier. They were on a route between two points that looked promising for the sunset. So having done some shots from point A, I decided to try point B. I could have walked straight past those arches on the grounds that I'd seem them before. But, without even thinking about it, my eyes flicked left and right as I passed each one. Whoa! I stop sharply. I know there's something there. I shift my position slightly to get the background to line up... It's not posed. In some ways it's a pure fluke; a case of being in the right place at the right time. But any number of people could have walked straight past that and not even noticed. Taking the picture is the easy part. Steve (who has one more sunset location he thinks might be worth a look before he returns).

Don't worry. There's loads more to come. The last couple of days I was out there I was too busy taking pictures. And since I've been back I've been too busy with more important things.
But I've just added a few night shots. Hand held at 1/15th sec on a moving vaporetto. I wonder why I like my IS lens
