I've found Damien rice pretty good to play to, but I want to explore some less well known music like the piece used on the Lloyds TSB advert recently,

New Labour: Proof positive that 345 villages are missing their idiots.

ive tried head phones duct taped to bottoms head, and played such things as,,,Shawady Waddies greatest hits, Barry Manalow, Youve Got Me by the Dollies (but thats a different storey)! and for the festive times, Peri Como's Christmas Party 1973. Oh to see her grimace as Peri and the King Singers belt out 'Jingle Bells' for the 5th time, and ONLY she can hear it is wonderfull. Saddly though as we move from a Gram-er-Phone playing nation to a IpodyMp3yCDingthingy, theses musical works are becomeing harder to find!

ps Is it just me or has anyone else found cd's hard to play? The hole in the middle of the disc is too big for the turn table and so far ive busted 3 needles and the record just seems to be static?

I love dark heavy orchestral goth music by bands such as Lacrimosa & Dead Can Dance as well the industrial end of the goth music such as bands like Angelspit and Gothminister.

Nine Inch Nails for sure especially the earlier stuff!!

Also agree with Rammstein and have to say some Disturbed too.. If i was going to make a list most of it would be metal actually. Once had a really intense scene to the sound of Dimmu Borgir! That was VERY interesting.

But also a big fan of Enigma-style music.. and gregorian chants etc.. atmospheric stuff.

I can play to most things.. but i remember my first play in a club was violet wand play watching the lights on the ceiling and listening to Nine Inch Nails Closer..

I was giggling at first because of how corny it was to me to hear that in a club.. but when i got into it, it really became a moment to remember!

Like most things that crop up (ooh, scuse fingers) on these boards, music is a pretty individual thing; different strokes (oops, there I go again) for different blokes, as it were.

For some, silence is golden. Others like a bit of the old Ludwig van, and it lends itself very well to scenes of ultraviolence with droogies - but then again so does Singing In The Rain.

There are some prevailing trends, and as a deejay those are what I call the 'safe' bets, but I've always been a bit of a mad scientist at heart so there have been a few 'experiments'. I'm the resident 'atmospheric engineer' in the Hades main dungeon.

I found jazz to be fairly unacceptable - complaints were made. Heads exploding and screaming people jumping out of 4th storey windows. I've never tried Country & Western but I reckon the effect might be similar - plus I singularly detest it above all other styles and genres. There is some artistic merit in playing Stand By Your Man while women are beaten by their various blokages - or while women beat the aforementioned blokages... But I'm not sure if I'm ready for that.

Peoples' tastes vary so much it's very difficult to be absolutely spot on in hitting on the right ambience for a room full of people all playing different scenes.

I have toyed with the idea of making CDs for individuals who are interested in this kind of thing (using music as part of their play, rather than as a 'wallpaper'), and would even go so far as to say I could write 'scripts' detailing the order of play and how this would fit in with the music supplied.

/doing it right now and been doing it for years cd's for BDSM or call it what you want, so if you want some loops back scapes textures just ask

BowJest I like your thinking !

My music tastes range from classical :

William Byrd : great for the quiet (!) moments.

Arvo Paert : - Especially Credo - wonderful crescendos and diminuendos in this one - guaranteed to cover up any non musical noise

and rock / goth:

Ozzy Osbourne, All about Eve, Evanescence & Metallica

But there are many others.
