Mike and I run the munchinfo site. I agree with all of the points you make above. However it is only recently that IC started to get rid of old and broken links. I'm sure if you checked a lot of bdsm websites you would find that many contain broken links and bad urls. We also only add information that is posted to us by munch organisers. While IC may be the biggest and most up to date website for people in the scene, does that mean other bdsm websites shouldn't exist?
Maybe you would be good enough to pass us the details of the 38% of listings that are wrong, and I will gladly update the details. After all if you've taken the time to go through the site and check each entry, it would be a waste not to put that information to good use. We do say on the front page of the site "Although we do try to keep the information for each munch as up to date as we can, we can't guarantee that there have not been changes we are unaware of. So, please check timings/date/venue with the organiser of the munch before you go."
We do the best we can, in the limited free time we have. We don't host adverts, nor do we charge for people to visit or list their munch details on it. As for us only linking to a munch website instead of adding more info about a particular munch, it is better to have a link to a url where people can check out the details themselves, than no entry at all. If you're in the North of the county (and with transport) you might consider Bedford or Cambridge. A dirty mind is a joy for life.

But at least IC has made the effort to get rid of old info. Other sites do have useless and out of date information on them, and had somebody plugged them on here as being the source of all things munch related, I would have had a go at them too.
But people forget where they have info posted, or march off into the sunset never to be heard from again. In those cases telling people about the status of their munch isn't their number one priority.
I never said other sites shouldn't exist. I said do not plug sites as the fount of all knowledge when a significant part of that knowledge is wrong. Science, the only religion that works even if you don't believe in it.

I'm NOT criticising as such but I'm afraid I agree with Bohnanza. Some of the info on www.munchinfo.co.uk is over 4 years old. I've never heard of this munch: http://www.munchinfo.co.uk/nsussex.html and the page was last updated in 2003!
I know I'm being a complete pedant but Croyden should be spelled Croydon, although the info is correct and the link works Best regards SN ================================== Edited 28 Mar 07, 8:40 PM by strictlynormal |
