"We all make fictions. Not one of us is what we seem. ... The urge to rewrite ourselves as real-seeming fictions is present in us all. In the glamour of our wishes we hope that our real selves will not be visible." Cannot display picture!

i love this statement, (made by the narrator in Christopher Priest's "The Glamour") - it says so much about us as people.

After reading "The Prestige" i've become hooked on Christopher Priest's style of writing. He has a somewhat unique gift for presenting a story that seems entirely understandable to the reader only to re-write it through the eyes of another character, in such a way that you are forced to re-evaluate everything you thought you understood about the story and it's characters. All this he does whilst maintaining a sense of the sinister - somewhat strange and slightly surreal.

"The Glamour" is the second book i've read by Priest, and it didn't disappoint. It's difficult to say much more about the story without giving away the essence of what makes it deliciously dark. Suffice it to say it's a book about perceptions and how what each of us believes can radically (and quite literally) alter our view of the world.
