Just spoken to the local Social services.
They can't speak to me, they do know we are having a few problems, but there is no one in the office as they have all gone out to visit an emergency case ! What the hell do they think my mom is ? she's been stuck down stairs for thew last 2 nights. But they are going to ring me later ??

Im really sorry about your situation, honestly. However to social services your mum has a roof over her head, and a family ( albeit from your posts maybe just her son.. you !) who can care for her. Shes NOT an emergency to them right now, mainly because they are overworked and understaffed... and yes proberbly there are more serious things going on. I have a friend who has a 17 year old disabled son, and social services have at times lead her a merry dance too. However if you have 20 serious call outs and 4 staff, im afraid some have to wait. I really do hope that they call you back today, but if they dont... keep calling them. kate x

I suspect to them if they are shortstaffed an emergency is someone living alone who is trapped in one room and unable to move All you can do is keep calling them and your doctor, as its your health as well thats going to suffer. I would also seriously consider calling your family and getting them off their backsides and over to help you. She is their mother as well, and they could at least have the decency to help for a few days. CMC Advs FREE to use fetish classified site for new and used, buy, sell, swap or wanted items.

Pester them. Every hour. I know it's dreadful that you have to do this, but making a bloody nuisance of yourself might be the best way to get a faster response. When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.

Does she have the use of a commode? If You dont have one, try the Red Cross ( who i know have wheelchairs etc for rent not sure about commodes though )or ask your surgery for numbers of places where you may be able to get one from. kate x

Dont just pester them - drop the hint in advance ie "ok I appreciate your busy but I will call you back in an hour" and constantly remind them at the beginging of every call of your name - "hello its Mr X here i spoke to you an hour ago re my mother etc. etc." drive the telephonist bonkers until she does something just to get rid of you.... Rediculous I know but its effective GF2

The Social Services have now phoned, they are looking to get mom into emergency respite care with a view to making that a perminat arrangement, I am however now waiting for a second call to see what can be arranged at this short notice. |
