I hardly ever post these days. That's because i don't spend as much time as i did online, and because i seem to be having too many hospital stays :-(

[rant] I can understand why people aren't bothering anymore, the atmosphere has changed on here in the last 6 months. I first found IC about 4 years ago after having a link to Shadowroses blog which i always used to read religiously, i then joined the site myself, but i then discovered Master_Bates!! whose lard blogs were inspirational. It goes without saying that Jaggerys posts are missed, but thankfully his old gems are still there to enjoy, then smartarse who wrote some hysterical stuff and is missed, also some people still blog but without the same regularity such as Spero Meliora, pfls_again, seraUK, Dewi cinci and dilly-tante etc.

I think since the reply function to the blogs came into effect the blogs gradually stopped being about peoples thoughts, contemplations or reviews, and started being about banter, conversation, cliques and popularity contests, about getting the largest number of replies to a thread, quantity over quality and far more "notice me" postings, they became a simple way of grabbing ego boosts, attention and just a way to relieve boredom rather than be constructive. Then there is the vendetta factor, that if you post a weblog you know full well someone with a hidden agenda is going to jump on anything you write and turn it into an argument for the sake of the argument rather than the point, or they only blog themselves with veiled malice to continue a disagreement they are having with someone else.

Anyone that then dares to write something which is in probability going to get them shot down in flames for having a view that people will argue against because they don't like your best friend for example, will not even bother anymore because their blog will be flooded out by the current blog trash like the happy christmas, happy new year, 1 question, 20 questions and god forbid... the 89 questions spam, and then the flood of blogs complaining about the 1 question, 20 question and 89 questions! or any other variety of blogs that supply a way of blogging and attention seeking that requires no original thought. There are so many better ways of doing it... on the off topic board or replying to a thread that contains everyones answers. Its just spam and self indulgance - why would anyone really care what is under anyone elses bed, and what difference does it make to know everyones favourite colour? have you retained anything useful from the answers on anyones blogs? except that there are a lot of bored people out there at night. Pretty much we can assume that most people sleep naked unless its cold, no-one hoovers under their bed and there are a lot of people that think of coffee first thing in the morning - whoo! hold the front page.

They say to change an attitude and behaviour you start by changing yourself and your own attitude, so i would love to write a decent informative blog that nourishes the masses, but; a)i am all dried out, b) it will be jumped on and critisized by those who don't approve of my Master for example and have a vendetta to fulfil, and c) no one would see it because there will be too many 89 question blogs for it to stay on the board for long enough to be worth the effort of writing it!

So it will continue; until someone comes up with something interesting to talk about. [/rant]

I know my place :)

I wholly agree with both alexandraa and fen.

I used to blog about thoughts and feelings but I feel that I can't do that anymore.

Then I blogged about things that I saw within our lifestyle that made me think. I hope that they made other people think too, whether they agreed with me or not.

I took the replies off some time ago because I was unhappy with what was happening to my blogs.

I have not written so much recently. I have written blogs and not posted them because I didn't feel that I could. I have posted blogs and instantly deleted them because I felt I could not post what I wanted to.

I am disheartened with IC now. Whether it was a case of running it's course or not I was not sure but my fears have been confirmed lately. The standard of behaviour is not one that I am entirely comfortable with being a part of.

I know that you can say, you get out what you put in. We had this conversation at home six months ago and decided to stay. We have started blogging elsewhere now and it is taking time to get the writing back to how it should be.

Ok I'm with you on the bed part. Colour isn't too bad and some other items in such questionnaires as it can give you ideas for presents for people or some other way to make them smile. But as I've said elsewhere I think such info should be kept to profiles so it's there for everyone who's interested in the person to see and fleshes out profiles, especially for those who are looking.

But I find myself looking harder and harder to find the odd gem on here. Some of it may be down to having been here long enough to see most of the questions that are likely to be asked, asked several times. But I'm not having a go at repetitive subjects as they have their uses. New people come along and learn or offer their experiences or put a new slant on things.

I have trouble keeping track of who's posting and not posting as it's just the way my mind works, I have a few people who I usually look for and then it's usually down to the topics. But I have noticed that things have changed and that some people have disappeared or are very quiet.

Some I suppose is down to life having got in the way. But maybe it's been easier because IC has lost it's attraction and so it's been easier for life to get in the way. Maybe it's natural progression and as we learn all we can and pass on what we can it gets to the point where we no longer have that much of a place here. That it's time to step back and let others take our places as we move on to whatever life has for us. Maybe after 5 or 6 years here we need to be pensioned off?

Anyway, I guess this has got me thinking about the future and about what to do when it's my time to go. Hopefully I'll have somewhere to go, but if not then I've got loads of books waiting to be read.

I remember when I used to post a lot, and there was a couple of groups of us used to get upto all sorts of mischief on here. It used to be excellent fun...They all seemed to have vanished, or the occassional blog, such as yours Bear, but so many people gone, or just view

Don't know what changed. I think it was when I moved to Leciester and stopped going to Leeds/Hull/York munches, BBB and nem. And I haven't yet managed to feel settled in here yet...

Happy Chicklet, Dwynwen, Jaggery,

They're still alive and flourishing, just not here. I've also noticed Sunbeam's postings are declining :(

I can't work out if this place really has changed or whether I'm joining Proc as an old moo :(

Sometimes I think it's just the swing of the pendulum, other times I think things have changed. I guess that when membership was low, it only had members who were interested in BDSM with a bit of banter thrown in.

As membership grows there is bound to be a dilution of those with serious intent and a growth of the banter. The place reaches a critical mass when considered discussion gets lost in the crowd.

I also think it is a compliment to Tanos that as the site becomes more use friendly and interactive (bookmarks, chat pages, off topic etc), it gives the impression that chatter is what it is here for. The easier something is to use, then the less people think about what they are doing. As I say, a compliment to Tanos that he created a place where people are happy and free to talk, but sometimes there is too much!

The problem seems to have come about as people use the blog as an off-Topic area. I haven't seen the same decline in the BDSM boards whcih generally stay on topic.

In my mind, a solution would be to raise the value of the blog section, make it something valued. Apply a brake to the chatter in a way that won't impact on the considered posts. Say a limit of 10 posts per hour to the blog section? This allows the considered posters to continue as they are, since it takes 5 to 10 minutes to read and compose a reply to a serious blog.

Because of the limit, any chatter would have to be on a board, ie off-topic.

Everyone's "Golden Age of XYZ" is different, however many years XYZ carries on for. Usually your perception of the Golden Age starts some way into your first year of using it, and extends about the same amount into the second year. That's the period when it's still newish to you, but you're confident enough to enjoy it fully. After that, all that was new and wonderful becomes just the same old, same old yet again. But it's not really XYZ that changes: it's you.

Some of the people posting about how IC has declined from its golden age over the last 2 or 3 years weren't around when people 3 years ago were complaining that it had declined over the previous 2 or 3 years.

But for me, the golden age of uk.people.bdsm was 1998. Ah, that was the year. It all changed then. It was the Golden Age. Well, for me at least.

Tanos

Well put Tanos.

Also things change and evolve as they grow. The numbers blogging means that things will change quicker and quicker. When I joined, a blog would last on the first page for a day or so. Now you have to search through a few pages. The toys have to be shared between more people.

errr.... assuming there are more people posting?
