Ok I'm not a happy kittie today, last night curled up in bed and watched a video on my laptop before going to sleep and shut it down as normal. This morning I tried to boot it up to check my mails and I couldn't even get it to start up in safe mode.
Scott tried his best to save my data (had so much stuff I still had to back up - thankfully I keep all my buisness e-mail on a secure online server as well as my machine) but had to do a full re-install so I'm having to re do all my bookmarks and hope I can find everything again. Windows had desided to wipe my file directory so I think I'll be trying to make the switch to Linux ASAP.

If you have a Windows XP disc you could have done a repair, which should have got your computer working and left everything but any MS updates, intact (unless it was damaged when the fault happened). Furry on the outside, Fluffy on the inside. |

Thanks, Scott tried that, windows had messed up that bad he couldn't even pull the data off onto his comp to save it. I've mainly lost alot of video and photos that I'm hoping I still have on memory cards. Just means I have to re-download a whole load of stuff, but not going to bother with too much until I have Linux on the drive, just need to download a 32bit version on SUSE as we only have the 64bit on disc. |

sorry it wasn't the file directory, it was the file allocation table, which is why it wasn't saveable. I'm not the most computer minded was a bit peeved at losing so many good videos and just glad all my important mp3s are already on my Zen so I don't have to copy all my cd's again.
