can't live with them,
can't bury them all under the patio without arousing suspicion.
It's that time of year when the few of us with some scruples contact family who don't bother with us all year and do the seasonal hellos / send cards / send prezzies etc.
and for many of us such a gesture is returned with silence, or an empty returned gesture as some kind of formality.
fuck them all.
are you interested in my life? my work? my partner? no you are fucking not. but you'll mention your new car won't you, and your old sick cat. thanks for that.

Shame isn't it. We give presents and cards because it is expected of us, not because we want to. My sister and I hardly speak from one year end to the next, not because we don't like each other but just because that's the way our relationship has developed. I phone her, she's out; she phones me, I'm out, and eventually the calls fade away. We exchange presents at christmas, almost always the same things as we've found something that is appreciated and see no need to deviate from it. Sometimes I think we'd do better to just say, you get our own present and I'll get mine, let me know what I bought you.
