My mother has recently had an operation on her foot. Said foot is currently covered in plaster. Lamenting the fact she is finding it difficult to get washed and feels desperate for a shower she was wondering what she could cover it with....
How about rubber? I suggested innocently... funny how I know just where to get some rubber socks and that they do in fact exist at all... Said rubber socks are now on their way to be worn by 72 yr old lady in quiet coastal retirement town.
You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

You're sending rubber garments to a 'quiet coastal retirement town'? Why do the words 'coals' and 'Newcastle' spring to mind?

I have just been through these fun and games with my son who has had an in-growing toenail operation (the fifth bloody op and it still does not look right!) Anyway we shower time has usually been a down right disaster requiring the redressing of the soggy bloody foot.
Conventional wisdom is often more about convention than wisdom.
