I've finally succumbed to the modern television age. After careful encouragement, gradual drip feeding and then out right delivery of scorn at my overwhelming access to just 4 TV channels (yes not even Channel 5), I was finally persuaded, by peer and Dom pressure, to bite the bullet. Well actually I impulse bought at ASDA, spending a whacking £23 on a digital box thingy. Just think how much chocolate you could buy for £23.
I carried it home full of scepticism, the box not the chocolate. My thoughts were 1) I had no expectation it would actually work, 2) If it did work then surely there would be no clear signal, 3) If it did work and there was a clear signal then I'd probably only be able to tune into my 4 original channels, 4) If I was really lucky maybe I'd finally get to watch Channel 5 if I ever felt that perverse.
I made a mistake. I followed the instruction book to the letter of the law (hey I'm a well trained submissive you know) and couldn't for the life of me get the damn thing to work. No amount of phone encouragement from Colbeh helped. Eventually I scorned the bastard thing, and wandered off to prepare dinner for the imminent arrival of titaniaa on her golden unicorn…. locally known as the tube.
Unicorn landed successfully despite me trying to co-ordinate arrival via her home phone line. No wonder she wasn't answering it because hello she's there across the road… I'll ring her mobile number in future I think. It's probably far more productive.
So while I tinkered in the kitchen with some fine hunks of meat, titaniaa fiddled with my box. She didn't bother with the instruction manual. After all why would anyone want to bother with that? She pressed buttons at random, ignoring all advice and written instruction on technique. Lo and behold the thing leapt into life and started behaving as was hoped for. She's good with boxes you know. A natural.
So I now have a bewildering selection of channels. Hmmmm. I find I'm kind of fascinated but still struggling to find something to watch. Plus the thing offers me tantalising selections of juicy programmes only to then tell me I'm not allowed to watch them. What's that about? I don't understand. Maybe I need more help with my box?
Despite an amazing array of possible viewing opportunities, I find I'm settling into my usual multi tasking routines. Writing weblogs and watching TV. Working and watching TV. Reading and watching TV. Doing my nails and watching TV. Now I come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever have just watched TV. They say you can learn to multi task but can you learn to single task? Maybe I need a TV where I can watch 2 or 3 stations at once.
Or maybe I need some discipline on focusing on one thing at a time. Ahhhh actually, now I come to think of it, discipline and focussing on one thing at a time can be a lot of fun…….. happy sigh ![]()
