i've always been a bit jealous of the french with their 'tu' and 'toi'. seemed to add an extra dimension to naming intimate relationships.

i totally forgot that we have our own - fallen into disuse apart from hymns and thomas hardy.

'thee', 'thine', thou', 'thy'.

how could this fit into a D/s relationship?

judging from hymns, it seems to go both ways. you can call the master of the universe 'thou', implying intimate deference. if god, or whoever, 'thees' you back; there is intimate paternalism.

but i guess that, a long time back, 'thee' or 'thou' was used in britain between siblings, families, lovers. (maybe i should look at my shakespeare!)

it's just an intriguing thought; to use 'thee' and 'thou' within a D/s setting. (without feeling amish!)

thoughts, anyone?

Interesting point there Telesto.

I don't know how relevant this is going to be to you but I hope you may find it to be of some interest.

My sub (angel) and I have been discussing my use of language when I go into "Domme mode". It seems I have a tendancy to start using very formal and complicated language. We have found this twinned with my Domme tone of voice to be a devastating combination in that it immediately makes my sub feel inferior. Pretty handy in a public situation if your sub is playing up and you don't want to have to physically dominate them!

Maybe use of the archaic language you suggested could be added in to a similar framework. Just a thought really.

Nix - Mistress to angel.

Mellors always used "thee" & "thou", as I recall, it was one of the things Lady Jane found so appealing :-) Certainly sets a particular mindset, I think.

As an aside, my Bbd has never called me by by given name, always referring to me as "my.... (insert romantic & cute pet name here)", even in public & he doesn't care who overhears.

;-) pls x

Oh yum. Preferably with a thick accent - Mellors was Derbyshire/Yourks, but Irish does the trick too, I've found!

Oh, I love this. I am going to work out how to use this somehow...

Sire, sounds much more special than an ordinary Sir. Hard to keep up maybe, but for those special occasions perhaps.

Well done Korri, an it doth please me to tell thee, that thou art a wondrous wench!

this girl often refers to her Master as my Lord, or my Leige Lord, and to be honest she finds herself using Sire more often than she uses Sir. There is something about these forms of address that just seems to express exactly how this slave feels about her Master :)

and lets not forget burd eh? a medieval term of endearment that has evolved into bird, which is a bit more common and seen more as a derivative (shame).
