Some on this list already know me from munches, parties and the BBB (Hiya!) but for those who don't, I am a 50 year old male Dominant and fortunate enough to have cerryn1 as my submissive.
My first reaction to subbeater's weblog was amusement ... and some concern, concern I have seen expressed by others already. The amusement was generated by various thoughts, one being "How does he manage to insert subliminal messages into his advertisement?" This must be the case to generate four replies on the same day he posted it. Not to mention getting someone to walk through a train station wearing a collar & lead and nothing under her coat (in January????) on the very first meeting. I don't know where he learned this technique but I want to enroll at that school. The amusement was continued by the witty logs from Roy & Greg.
The concern comes from the fact that this stuff purports to be real. "No-one would believe this is real", I hear you cry - but the trouble is that people new to the Scene have no yardstick to judge by (perhaps why they come to IC?) and may well believe some of it. I shudder in embarrassment when I think of some of the misapprehensions I had when I came into the Scene.
Subbeater's "story" reads more as how *not* to be a safe, responsible Dominant. Leaving someone unattended, hanging by their wrists, gagged and with only their toes on the floor while he cooks lunch???? This is total irresponsibility. The safeword debacle is another first class example.
If subbeater wants to write BDSM porn that's fine (though personally I would suggest he didn't quit his day job). I think however that he should state it is a work of (uninformed, badly written) fiction and be done with it, rather than writing it up as an actual occurrence. That way newbies won't assume that seriously risking *death* by asphyxiation because the Dominant is cooking lunch is safe and sane play.
