What can I say thats not already so eloquently been covered by those better and more able to comment. Maybe simply this. Never before have I been so frightened by a potential law, why? Simple really...freedom of speech and my civil liberty is now under threat, in a country I always thought stood for the above.
How dare you. How dare you presume. How dare you take away my rights to consensually do as I wish with whom I wish, in my own private space...How dare you presume to tell me how I may or may not live my life.
When I first read 1984 so many years ago, it chilled me.However I felt safe from that chill by simply not believing this country of ours would ever dare to infringe upon the individuals who live in it, personal freedom.
I can but only wonder, how this law has already come so far. I can only wonder about the law makers and whether the phrase 'those in glass houses' perhaps makes their hands shake a little as they read and then allow this to progress. I am sure there are but very few within this govt and also those who you intend to make uphold this law, who by its very existence would not be found to also on the wrong side of it.
You have almost made me ashamed to be British, ashamed now to not be a part of the light for freedom, justice and truth. How can you possibly go into the world and fight the wars that you do, when in your own land you are already begining to try and fit yokels of opression to those who live in it!!
Never did I think I would see a day when the British people would feel fear and threat in this way!

You said it - most eloquently. The 'new world' was populated by those seeking refuge from persecution, from Britain and else where 250 years ago. I thought we had moved on a bit. We here dreadful stories from parts of the world that are 'less enlightened' and dictatorial rather than acknowledging freedom and human rights. Are we moving to join them.
