I've heard it said that only fools are definite in their own minds - the wise can always see both sides of any argument. If that's the case, mark me down as a fool.
Just today I've received a mail out from my local constabulary inviting me along to the first meeting of my local PACT - Partners and Communities together.
'Your local Neighbourhood Team' it reads 'together with your local Neighbourhood Manager and other Partners will be at your first PACT meeting for your Neighbourhood known as Neighbourhood 147. The meeting will give you the opportunity to find out all about Neighbourhood Policing and directly influence what issues are addressed in your Community.
'Assist us in assisting you' message ends.
Questions: Which 'local Neighbourhood Team'?
'Local Neighbourhood Manager '? Who hell he?!
'Neighbourhood 147'? STOP!!! Isn't this all getting a little bit 1984?!?!
'Directly influence what issues are addressed in your Community' aka grassing up anyone of whom one has suspicions about anything, no matter how trivial or unfounded.
Another example of the police needlessly involving themselves in our lives? Ought they not to focus themselves on catching career criminals, not peeking through our bedroom windows, or - as in this case - asking us to do it for them?
