By the end of 2007, 100% of internet traffic in the UK will go via CleanFeed or equivalent blocking systems. Currently the only websites blocked by this technology contain child pornography. However the home office has already made it clear that they have considered extending the remit to cover websites that promote terrorism under the terms of the 2006 terrorism act, and the bill was crafted to allow such censorship. Both Home office Minster Vernon Coaker and MP Marin Slater have mentioned CleanFeed in connection with extreme pornography so it seems likely that that bill will similarly crafted. But that's OK, you might say, no one needs to worry about extreme pornography if they can't access it. That's as long as you don't mind what websites might be blocked at the same time because of images they might feature that are lawful in their country of origin. |
It seems CleanFeed might be a total turkey like the CSA's computer system, - could even backfire horrendously.
