The most loving relationships I have ever had have always involved someone being beaten or sexually tormented. Sometimes it has been me, sometimes my partner. In every case it has culminated in a sharing of joy, peace and love.

Obviously, my experience would lead to my supporting Backlash. My objections to the legislation are not based on my experience however. I object to the idea that credence is being given to the idea that violent pornography engenders violent behaviour. If you accept that to be the truth then you are denying free will and subscribing to a myth that evil can be eradicated by censorship.

To seriously suggest that banning images of extreme porn will ensure there is no temptation to offend is not only misguided but cynical and a denial of reality by this government. It is a witch hunt, pure and simple. A kneejerk reaction that is more likely to result in the misguided prosecutions of consenting adults than any "sex beast".

If you drive practitioners of BDSM who understand the difference between hurt and harm and between consensual and non-consensual activity underground how will that contribute to the safety of the majority of the population? It won't.

I'm not pleading for a re-think on the basis of my own sexual proclivities but on the grounds of commonsense. Stop looking for scapegoats by trying a quick fix and misguided legislation and put our money and your political will to more effective use. Review current legislation on sex offenders so there are no loopholes and no [ossibility of re-offense. Tighten up current practice to ensure no one slips between the gaps. Ensure cross-working between agencies - nationally and internationally. In short take practical action that benefits the population instead of attacking a section of the general public rather than admit your own inability to take effective measures.
