I could do this with "I'm just a normal woman in suburbia, a mother, a tax-payer, a mortgage owner, a two point fourer in every sense of what is banal and mediocre".

Except I'm not just anything. I'm a pervert, so I'm told. And because it's taken me so many years to acknowledge and grow into what I am, I'm proud of it too.

I like to hurt my girlfriend. I like to take pictures of the marks that I've inflicted. I have a male Dominant partner too. He likes to hurt us both and to take pictures of the marks.

It gets worse. We go out and socialise with like minded perverts. We use sites such as these. We are not ashamed of what we are, we dare to say it publically, to meet publically, to play publically.

The Offenses against the Person legislation means that we are sometimes already committing crimes. Physical crimes that we are unlikely to get punished for, but crimes nonetheless. But now there is more legislation to be applied, legislation to put us on par with paedophiles and rapists, legislation that would make of us sex offenders.

I am not a sex offender. What I do with these people, these special people, I do with love, with joy, with arousal, with pleasure, with passion. Not offence and malice and hatred. Only a spiteful and grey person would decry what we do as hateful and sinful. And what is a sin anyway except a crime against an idea, against a moral? If so then I guess that makes me a sinner in that so much of what we do from living as a three to living as a D/s relationship offends those who look for something to be offended by.

To the prurient and petty minded, what we do is inexplicable. And for that alone I am profoundly grateful. I can imagine nothing worse than being understood by those whose narrow-minded bigotry I so dislike.

I am not ordinary. Underneath the suited and booted exterior, underneath the jeans and t-shirts, underneath the carapace of normality is me. Tattooed and pierced, whipped and welted, happy to be where I am whether that is on my knees or standing over her supine body with a whip in my hand. I'm a pervert, and proud of it.

Look at us. Literate and not, thin and fat, tall and short, young and old, rich and poor. We are the same as you. Except we aren't, we are wildly different because we have found what makes us feel alive and we revel in it, we roll in it, coat ourselves in it, howl at the moon for the very joy of being who we are. We are perverts to some, extraordinary ordinary people who live in a way that isn't the apparent norm. Our choice. I hurt her, not you. So to those who want to sit in judgement, why? What have we done that you want to persecute us? Or is it our very difference that offends?

We aren't going anywhere. We're already around you, already here. Could be any one of us because we don't look different. We just embrace what makes us ... us.

Vive la difference.
