Dear Stephen McCabe,

I'm writing to you because I am very concerned about a change in law that is going to have a huge impact on mine, and thousands of others, civil rights.

I am referring to the extreme pornography bill. I am an ordinary person, I go to work, I pay my taxes, and yes, I vote. I also practice 'BDSM'. However, surely what I and my partner choose to do within our own lives consensually, should not be the business of anyone else? Especially, the government!

I am in absolute agreement with the part of the bill that covers bestiality and necrophilia. However, giving the government the power to arrest or send me to prison because I may have photos that may contain images that others who do not understand my sexuality, may judge as 'serious violence', even if no damage, lasting or otherwise, is caused and consent from all parties is gained, is quite simply dangerous and reeks of the same hatred vented at the Gay community in the not so distant past. It also reeks of a Nanny state to come.

There is absolutely no proof that watching violent pornography incites violent sexual acts within those that watch it. And the response to the Government proposal, during consultation has been overwhelmingly against legislating for all of the proposals.

I would like therefore, to register my horror at this proposal, and ask for your views as the MP for my area. What are your views on this subject? Have you looked into any research that either supports or denies the Government stance? Have you looked at any independent research? How can you, my MP, best represent me and my Community? How will you be voting?

I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely,

Brilliant letter - Can I borrow you next time I need to write to mine ?

"Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted; the indifference of those who should have known better; the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most; that has made it possible for evil to triumph." Haile Selassie, 1892-1975

Now thats a jolly good letter BV, I wish I still had a British MP to write too, but living abroad, sadly I don't. I hope many others will follow your example BV, and bring these wretched 'do gooders' to their senses.
