It's not as difficult or expensive to dress for a club as people often seem to think. You really can do it without spending a fortune on clothes, but it does help if you enjoy the dressing up aspect. If you approach it as if its like wearing a tie for work, like something you have to do, you'll be uncomfortable and ill at ease. You shouldn't feel ridiculous in your clubbing clothes, you should feel like yourself. It might be a different side of yourself, but still you. Just make an effort, and if in doubt, as others have said, e-mail the club organisers and ask if what you're planning to wear would be acceptable.

A film called 'Kate Beckinsale jumps off some buildings in a leather corset' consisting of just that for 90 minutes would have had a better plot, more wit and better dialogue than 'Underworld'. Even if all she said was 'umf!' when she landed.

the best advice I can give is to get in touch with the oganisers before hand and talk to them.

You will find many are cool as long as they know you are genuine.

good luck I hope you are on here again in a few weeks asking where to buy all the lovely clothes you saw at the club lol.

If, as you say, you want a testing ground in London, then Hades is a good bet. The dress code isn't as strict as in other clubs as they recognise that not all players are fetishists. There's a good mix of play and socilaising. Plus I'm there, which makes it totally fabulous ;-)

TG and Subversion do still have dress codes. TG is too big impersonal and too many kiddies there for my liking, although each to their own. Subversion is good, lovely people, but I'm not keen on the boom boom music.

ST is fab for players, the kit is great, but not as social. You need to become a member I believe.

I've had a few good night at The Gate, which is smaller, but well equipped, and you can actually talk to people!

Lovetrix is the only place I leave London for these days, which speaks for itself :-D

I'd just to add in here, I'd also be interested in a low-impact club to attend. I love to play but not in clubs. However, I do like to watch play and see the outfits and generally soak up the abience of a fetish night. Would anyone here want to get together in a group for a night out some time in the future?

I need some good fun. It's been a while.

Certainly at the last Subversion there were several dress uniforms, a 'Top Gun' flying suit, me in a tutu, that guy head to toe in latex with a gas mask, a nice italian couple in PVC, the bar staff in leather harnesses, rubber, leather, cowboy hats, and Lucy the pink fluffy rabbit - it really doesn't matter as long as you make an effort because that's what makes it comfortable and safe for everyone else...have a look at the pictures: http://www.londonfetishscene.com/lfsgallery/view...

Dress codes aren't about making it hard for people, they are about making the environment safe and comfortable for all our fetishes...

I think I'd probably recommend Smack for that - it's got kit, it's got dancing, it's got nooks and crannies, and it's got great hosts. _And_ it's got originality each month in one way or another.

That's the most important bit. Do you want to dance or play or watch people dancing or playing? Do you want to see people having sex or not?

As newbies I'd definitely recommend Lovetrix, very friendly and no problem if all you want to do is watch.

Hades is great with a variety of experiences depending on which room you're in. I love it, but it is a larger club although it never feels crowded.

ST is superb if you're into play.

Subversion is good and you'll find a lot of watchers there and the dance floor is well used (more so than any of the three clubs mentioned above. But there are a lot of people for whom the dressing up is a serious part of their fetish. It doesn't mean you have to and you'll have great fun looking at what others are wearing.

Dress codes help the clubs prevent the casual passer-by from blagging their way in. Last time I was at Lovetrix, two 'nillas were desperately trying to persuade the door staff to let them in, but it was obvious that they had no idea what was actually going on in there!

You may have to try a few places to decide exactly what does it for you, but look at it as an adventure, and have fun exploring!

A dirty mind is a joy for life. :-p
