The kittens are 10 months old now, and for all that time Casper has always trailed behind Billy in terms of development. I think because Billy is so in your face, Caspy just kinda gets on with things.
Billy has been going out now for a while, around the gardens, lying in the sun. He doesnt go far but he loves it. Casper never went further than the front step, and panicked at the slightest noise.
We had both noticed this week that Casper had made a lot of progress with us- being less nervy in the house, very cuddly. Today I brushed him for about 45 minutes, he was loving it, and really relaxed and lost himself.
I opened the front door to let Billy out and to blow some bubbles for Caitlin and Casper followed.
I dont know what changed for him today but he set off down the stairs. Very tentatively at first, constantly looking back to me. And then he hopped down between the rails, and just sauntered up the garden path happy as larry.
He and Billy have been playing "chase the butterfly" and they are still both out there now.
I sat on the stairs watching them, scared to move incase the noise freaked them, crying and smiling, and feeling so proud of my little fellas.
Those first steps are always the hardest.
Today Casper took his, this week I take mine.
The week couldnt have started better.

That sounds really beautiful velvet - it's always nice to see a kitten take its first steps in the outside world. Best Wishes Curious_Sub |

When my Whiskey was allowed outside for the first time, she took one frightened look around and jumped straight into the middle of a bush that had 2" long thorns !! She avoided being impaled but would have surely been stuck there until she starved to death if i hadn't carefully lifted her to safety. Moral of the story ? Beware the briery bush 'cos it can grieve your heart full sore....unless there's some back up. Penguin wants to provide back up. |
