I quite liked it. Not having played the game I had no real idea what it was about, but I thought it would be similar to house of the dead and so be a lot of zombie shooting. So was quite a nice surprise. And while I don't find many horror films scary, I have to say I did find Silent Hill quite earie and kept me a bit on edge in some places. And I quite liked the looks of it, reminded me of a mix between a Tool and MArilyn Manson video in places. Only part that didn't really work for me was Sean Bean's accent, he did a good job, but it just didn't belong with him. Evanescence, Bad Taste Bears, Liverpool Munch, is back. Personally i thought Sean Bean's place in the entire film was a waste of time and at 1st i thought it was someone else, i also thought none of it was scary, didnt have me jumping but did have me looking at eldest with a puzzled look and a 'what was THAT meant to be?' and then we sat laughing at the ridiculousness of it.
That said, once i (daughter cleared off to bed bored) got into the film (half way through) i did actually enjoy it although as ive said before, just did not get it. You have done a fair job of explaining it tho BB and for that Thanks

Well limbo is a generic term for a place between worlds. So not in heaven and not in hell and not on earth as such. Purgatory is more close to hell. It's a place of suffering, but can be like a mini hell for those who need to suffer for a bit to be purged of sin before being allowed into heaven. So I used limbo to describe a another plane of existance between heaven and hell but without it being a specific plane of existance. So it could be neutral, or a lesser plane of hell or something entirely different. Evanescence, Bad Taste Bears, Liverpool Munch, is back. It's here as well LM

Yeah, Sean didn't really do that much, but I think the role was needed just to emphasise the trapped loneliness at the end. But maybe they could have found an american actor to fill that role. And I think the not knowing what the hell was going on is more kind of what gave me that sense of eariness, especially when the world changed that first time. And I have to say that if I was the mother in that film I'd have been crapping myself when that happened. But as I was in the cinema then I wasn't scared. I will admit to jumping during the nurses scene, even though I was expecting what happened to happen, well it was kind of obvious, just didn't expect it to happen at that precise moment. I did like the imagery though, that was cool and I was impressed by the fact it wasn't a big shooty film like Resident Evil, it had more intelligence than that. I seem to be able to understand wierd films like that quite easily. I came out of the cinema after watching Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within and my two friends didn't have a clue what it was all about, and I just saw it as the earth having an infection and the Doc/Soldiers finding the ingredients to a cure for it. Still glad you like my view of what the ending to Silent Hill was about. Evanescence, Bad Taste Bears, Liverpool Munch, is back. It's here as well LM |
