I played the games, saw the movie and still didn't completely understand the end.

I think what happened at the end, was that somehow instead of taking home her daughter, she took home the identical looking mental one which is why everything is misty. I think this is the case because the two girls interact at the end of the film, but you don't know what happens between them leaving it open for a sequel, just like resident evil.

Mmmmm, that explains a fair bit but if she took home the 'mental' twin, how come the husband could only sense/smell his wife and kid?

I haven't played the game but I think I got it. Silent hill is a town in limbo, kind of half way between life and death. Where spirits wait to be judged and decide where they go from there, heaven or hell. When the mother and daughter entered silent hill they basically died and ended up in this limbo world. At the end they are released but not back to life and so are stuck in this limbo world between life and death and that's why Sean could sense her but not find her.

Not sure if it's the fact they helped evil to overcome a worse evil that was acting in the name of good as to why they are left in limbo or not, or maybe it's just their desire to go home that is stopping them from accepting they are dead and so should move on to heaven or wherever.

Evanescence, Bad Taste Bears, Liverpool Munch, is back. It's here as well LM

I agree with BondageBear. Although I still scratch my head every time I watch it.

Such a shame, as I think the film had a lot of potential. Bit of a disappointment.

Yea!!! now that makes sense now i think back over the film, but it was purgatory wasnt it not limbo?

Or is purgatory limbo?
