This has probably been asked numerous times before so apologies if I'm going over old ground here.
Himself has expressed an interest in learning some of the intricately tied rope bondage I keep seeing pictures of on here Can anybody recommend websites or books that are a good starting point for a novice? Oh and another thing - is the type of rope used purely down to personal preference? Thanks all

Surprisingly, the op is more upbeat abotu the ropes he sells. I can't imagine why. God invented Guiness so I wouldn't rule the world

Thanks all,
The website links have more than enough to get started with - I have a feeling somebody will be down B&Q looking for suitable rope tomorrow
Unfortunately Essex libraries don't seem to stock the suggested books I find myself really looking forward to being practiced on maybe a little too much? Thanks again

http://ds-arts.com/RopeArt/ A beautifully constructed site. For intricate ropework I use satin cord which can be purchased from haberdashers by the yard ... It comes in 20 and 25 yard lengths on card and is available in a huge range of exquisite colours. The texture is amazingly sensual. If you have lots of money to spare and get right into the sensuality aspect, you can buy silk rope. Suspension or other heavy-duty bondage requires something more robust and here I would recommend cotton or one of the more flexible man-made fibres. A browse in B&Q will find you some suitable rope in a textrure and colour to suit your tastes. Some people prefer to use hemp rope (like you see in most Japanese porn bondage pictures). I can't stand it but the roughness is a real turn-on for some people. Just remember to condition hemp rope before using it for bondage. Remember safety when learning rope bondage, always keep a knife handy to release the sub quickly if need be and be very careful of knot positions to avoid damaging radial nerves. All the books on the subject cover safety quite well. ciao

Never use cotton rope for suspension. 6mm cotton has a breakign strength of around 100kg on a static load compared with nylon at 500kg. God invented Guiness so I wouldn't rule the world

take a length of cotton rope... tie a loop in each end... attach one end to the top of a door... stick your foot in the other end and put your weight on it. unless it's very thick, it'll become two pieces of rope. the lack of strength is due to the short length of cotton fibres, other plant fibres such as hemp are much longer, synthetic rope fibres are as long as the rope itself. for suspension I use hemp or nylon in either 6mm, 8mm or 15 mm (15mm is overkill, I just like the way it looks for some things).
