We haven't been to House Of Principals for a long time, although we did join and become members on their first night. We stopped going due to having other things planned for the same dates for three months and then just never went back. There had also been bad feelings between the Domly One and the HoP organisers. They lost their venue and moved on to private house parties for a while for members only. By this time we were no longer members, the initial membership having expired.
However, after some troubles finding a venue, they've had two nights at Fury Murray's in Glasgow and we decided to go along for the third night. (We'd have gone along for the first one, but we weren't sure if we'd get in. After reading a bit of info on a thread on here we thought we'd give it a try.)
A Tuesday night: not our usual night for clubbing, but hey ho, why not? We don't get home from some munches until after 1am and so a club isn't going to be much later. So off we tootled, managed to park almost outside the place and walked on in, carrying our bags with clothing to change into, the toybox and the ropes bag. Well laden as always!
The doors opened at 8pm and when we arrived at about 8.20 there were perhaps 6 people there already. We paid our entry fee, were greeted pleasantly and shown around the place. It's nice, suited the club quite well, the sunken bit used for the play area looked good with the black and red netting, and back and red walls. Seating is plentiful and comfortable.
We'd been told that feet stick to the floor in there - it wasn't true. The toilets are smallish but there is a disabled loo that served us well as a changing area as it's much more roomy than the ladies. There was one toilet out of order in the ladies, but as there were another 6 or 7 to choose from that wasn't much of a hardship. I have no idea at all about the gents! (I'm now told the gents lavvy was quite big)
By about 9pm there were a few more people, but it didn't look as if it was going to be a busy night. A shame really as it's not a bad venue for a fetish night. By the time we left, a bit before midnight, about 20 people were there. The place needs more than that in it, and when/if HoP are on there again I hope it is better supported. It looked even emptier as everyone was clustered at either one end or the other of a longish narrow room.
The play area had three pieces of kit in it, (not really much room for more, although maybe one more piece might have been squeezed in) none of which were used at all the whole time we were there. It appeared to be perfectly adequate equipment, the St Andrews cross had been finished off very nicely with some sort of fabric that had a dull sheen to it.
One of the Domly One's pet hates is a club that takes your money then has nothing more to do with you all night, especially if you're new. Saying hello and goodbye is not quite enough in his books. He couldn't possibly find any complaints on that score last night, we sat for most of the night with two of the organisers and chatted away quite happily.
I thought drinks were expensive, but then I seldom buy very much drink at all. We had three soft drinks and one bottle of a vodka based mixer and had no change out of a tenner. To me that seems quite expensive but I may be living in some sort of timewarp.
Everyone seemed to know everyone else from attending the Merchant's Munch, not having been in the position of being a newbie to the scene for ages I don't know how that would feel to someone coming along for the first time. I suspect they'd be absorbed into the existing 'crowd'.
I had a pleasant evening, it could have been improved by there being more people there, and by there being at least some play, but to be fair we didn't do anything either.
Would I go back?: Yes, but I'd be reluctant to do so unless there were more people there. (I know that if everyone said that then there would be no-one there but I'm being honest, right!) I liked the venue and I didn't mind being there on a Tuesday

Yet another case of people not supporting the events that are on.
I really wish people would wake up and realise that if they dont use it they WILL lose it. Sweetiejar

that does seem expensive for the drinks but i guess its to help cover the venue? *shrug* i dont know what a vodka-based mixer is but unless its worth £8.50...
i would gladly go to such a night, if it were within travelling distance of me =/ ah well. |

It did feel like a bit of a downer of a night with the low turn out. So far the Sunday and Tuesday nights in the cub had worked out ok... but with a small core number of attendees because of the midweek timing it only takes a few people to be ill, or have family stuff or last minute work commitments and its down to a small number.
Like you said it was still a nice night... friendly and chatty and more like a munch than a club night... except we were all dressed up and the kit was sitting there unused and
A dozen more people coming looking to socialise and get some play going and it would have been a completely different kind of night i think
All the best

Was my first night to a bdsm club in Scotland and was kinda expecting more as my friends had told me there was a huge scene up here. But then it was a tuesday night not always the best night in the week to go out specially if you have to get your ass outta bed for work the next morning.
Everyone i met was really nice and ive never felt so welcome before. Shame the dungeon equipment never got to see any action though. Would i go again? I would love to but would be nice to see more people there. |
