Quite a few of you know about this already. We didn't want to generate any major fanfare about it for various reasons, but ... if you happened to read suzee's charmingly mysterious weblog of earlier today, the "Mansions" to which she refers are our own Matou Mansions, and the "Mr & Mrs M" to whom she refers are, ummmm, us.
Yes, Matou and I went off to the Coventry Registry Office on Saturday morning, the 26th of June.
The reasons why we didn't make an announcement before about our decision to get married have to do with some of the things I wrote about in my last weblog, the one marking the two-year anniversary of my collaring. Also, much of what I wrote about last year when we moved in together is still relevant*. We decided to get married primarily to make it possible for us to continue to be together, and to make our relationship comprehensible to and viable in the vanilla world. However, the *essence* of our *real* relationship is as it always has been: that I am Matou's collared submissive, his property. That mutual commitment was, and is, absolute. Being "legal" in the eyes of the world has its advantages, but what is most important to *us* is our ongoing 24/7 relationship as Dominant and owned submissive.
Nevertheless, Saturday was great fun! Getting married is a wonderful excuse to throw a party ... especially one in which we were able to be with so many treasured friends. All our guests were members of the BDSM community (including a fair number of IC-webloggers).
Since we were given the date by the registry office a few weeks ago and started making plans for the day, people have been asking me if my family would be coming over from the US for the event. The answer is no, they didn't, again for various reasons: health concerns, schedules, finances, etc. But as we said at one point during our post-ceremony party on Saturday night, in many ways we *did* feel as if "our family" was there. In the ways that matter most, our friends in the Midlands (and beyond!) BDSM scene *are* our family ... and they were there for us on Saturday, contributing to and sharing in our happiness.
We've already thanked people privately, but again, we wanted to express our gratitude to all those who helped make the day so memorable: those who attended, and those who were unable to attend but sent their wishes our way. We love you all.
