Some of you -- our many dear, long-suffering friends -- know that Matou and I have, for *months*, been involved with trying to move house. Finally, *finally*, over the past couple of weeks, we have in fact been able to get most of our belongings into the new incarnation of Matou Mansions. Still no telephone or internet hookup, so the computer still resides at the old Matou Mansions, where I am now composing this weblog. The new place is a rental (which makes the difficulties we've had getting the transaction completed even more frustrating) so it's not really ours in an ownership sense, but still we are pleased and excited to have more space, and to be setting up our first home *together*. While I have always loved the old Matou Mansions, in many ways it continued, in my mind at least, to be Matou's place (where I was staying) rather than *our* place. The New Matou Mansions is *our* place.
Most of the move occurred a week ago, over the bank holiday weekend. And here, we both want to *publicly* shout the praises of PaulBX and subsumed, without whose help we would not have been able to survive the aforesaid move. Or at least, survived with so few injuries! From the moment of their arrival at Old Matou Mansions on Monday, things started looking up.
From her weblogs, some of you may know that subsumed has been a bit under the weather of late, so none of us wanted her to do any heavy lifting. Nonetheless, she helped so much, unpacking books and videos and helping me keep my flagging spirits up.
PaulBX, in addition to his famous topping and culinary skills, revealed many other hidden talents on Monday. For example, he has a remarkable ability to move incredibly heavy, awkward furniture (including our old but much beloved wardrobe, long-time vessel for many of Matou's instruments of torture and delight!) ... *without* losing his temper when incompetents like me get in the way!
Also, as if by magic, Paul succeeded in helping us gain access to our garage (which has been locked, and for which we have no keys, the owner apparently having lost them). This was a great joy to us, as we have plans for converting the garage into a dungeon (you didn't expect us to actually keep our cars in there, did you?). Little work could proceed on this project, though, with our being locked out. Thanks to Paul, the transformation can begin! Watch this space for progress reports.
Best of all, Paul and subsumed brought us some bendy merlot which we most happily opened when the worst of the work was over. The New Matou Mansions has a lovely garden, and we were able to sit outside and sip for a little in the sunshine. Then we sat and sipped for a while longer inside. This is something Matou and I have been looking forward to for a very long time. The old place has been so incredibly crowded with both of our possessions (not to mention the fur people!) that we have been unable to invite friends over as often as we would like, just because there has been no space! Sitting in our new dining room (no dining table yet, but soon!), with Paul and subsumed, drinking, chatting about anything and everything, was a simple yet remarkable and long-anticipated pleasure for us.
So thank you, Paul and subsumed, for helping us to make it possible. We are looking forward to many a future occasion in the New Matou Mansions with the two of you and with *all* of our many wonderful friends in the BDSM scene.
I also wanted to thank pflsagain, who -- untiringly and as always -- has been helping me keep my morale somewhat closer to "up" than it would have been without her. She has put up with literally *months* of my whinging and complaining about the problems with the new house and with the move, providing feedback and suggestions and general good humour. Thank you so much! We can't wait to invite you and C to the new place for a proper evening together!
Finally, a personal note:
Throughout the move, I have been reflecting on the peripatetic nature of my adult life. A couple of days ago I actually counted up how many times I have moved house from age eighteen when I first left my parents' home to the present. Believe it or not, this last move to the New Matou Mansions marks my 27th move in 29 years (on three continents plus various islands in the South Pacific; and yes, if you do the maths you'll discover that this makes me 47 years old at present ... hmmm!?!). I wish I could say it will be the last move, but I know it won't be.
Nevertheless, this move will always be one I remember: not only as one of the more complex and difficult moves I have experienced, but paradoxically also as one of the most enjoyable ... because it has been accomplished together with my beloved Dominant, Matou. And because it marks a new beginning for us. We are now in a place and a position where we can do so many things we could not do before: things of which we have been dreaming and for which we have long planned. Some are purely "vanilla" things. For instance, we're thinking of planting a herb garden; after BDSM, Matou's and my greatest shared passion is cooking and a ready supply of fresh herbs sounds just the thing. Quite a few kinky things too: we will now have much more space, and many more spaces, in which to play!
But mostly my happiness now is just in our *being* together in a place that is not mine, not his, but *ours*.
Again, to PaulBX and subsumed, thank you. O-tsukare sama deshita (a Japanese expression of gratitude which literally means, "you have tired yourself out on my behalf").
And also, again, to Matou ... anata-ni mo, o-tsukare sama deshita. Ai shiteru, Sensei, itsumo, and ... here's to the future. A future I can't imagine sharing with anyone but you.
