my mother in law collapsed out of the blue last sunday, banging her head and was taken to hospital to have some blood drained ( i dont know the exact name for the procedure).

she was kept in overnight and expected to wake up on Monday, but didnt... she was air ambulanced to Aberdeen and yesterday her family were told that it wasnt going to happen, she is brain dead.

this is a woman in her late 60's who treated me like a son over the years, even after my wife and i had split. she never judged me and was fiercly protective of me. she once took a bus from Inverness to London just to look after me when i lived alone and was really ill. i discovered afterwards that she had taken tins of beans back with her as they were "cheaper down here".

she was an inspiration to me in many ways, not directly, but just from watching her deal with everyday life.

she taught me patience and understanding, tolerance and forgiveness. she taught me to be non judgmental and to appreciate what we have as there are always others worse off.

i will miss this woman............

It seems you have been very touched by this lady in your life; she will always have your fondest memories. For this you are both lucky for the experience. Sorry she has left you under such tragic circumstances.
