I too am trying to pluck up the courage to get started as my interest in the whole scene is constantly growing but I feel i'm being held back by my vanilla lifestyle.

I've been on here and a few other sites for a while now and for some reason find it hard making friends, just feels like i'm being completely ignored sometimes which is also why I think i'm finding it hard to grow some balls and go to a munch..

Lol, one day...

What puts me off most of all is the 'having to run the gauntlet of the local regulars who knew what was going on upstairs'. Isn't there a munch somewhere that operates under the guise of some other 'interest'? It's not others in the scene who are to be feared, it's the gossips at the bar who might recognise you: before you know it, your next door neighbour knows!

I am 19, which while seeming quite old to me, seems quite young in the grand scheme of things, but thanks to evryone that read my post and replied, its nice to find boards that are genuinely friendly and offering honest advice to newbies.

Some pubs know what the group in the corner meets to discuss but a lot dont! If they did then many munches would be constantly changing locations

The venue for our local group understands we are an internet discussion group, they leave the questions at that

The Docklands munch operates in a fairly low key way. But I guess in the end, it is a public act to turn up to a munch and it was something I was acutely aware of when I first went to the London munch. I have been fortunate that only those I wanted to know about it have ever found out.
