Pedestal

This painting was commissioned from Sardax for our opening night, October 2003. There are many things we love about this painting, like the flower/plant style motifs on the throne. We had an early trip to Crete and saw this style of pattern decorating ancient coffins found at Knossos, and for us they drew links between the Minotaur style horns and axe head shapes that symbolise the Goddess there. It was a delightful surprise for us to see how Sardax had skillfully picked things out from our story's and worked them into his art. Another feature is the Cathedral fashioned background held up by heels. To us Sardax drew together our links between female dominance, fetishism and aspects of Goddess worship which we love deeply, and created a painting which became both personal and symbolic.
